OVERVIEW from AYABLOOM

When this card was pulled it was slightly bewildering on how I would interpret it into a sonic journey. I was expecting a card that was more of an emotional position, like Love, Death etc. I had to sit with this card for a couple of months. When James made a set release date, it coincided with being on my birthday 25th September.

The more I read the description of the card the more I recognised that this mix was actually based on me as a person and the pulling the Knight of Shields was actually about a description of who I am as a person.

“The Knight of Pentacles is about the daily tasks and the responsibility that one has to gain through a specific project. This knight has the patience to accomplish all his given duties and is considered by others reliable and committed to his work. To see this card is an indication that there is a need to be trustworthy and reliable.
You are fully committed to your assignments and you make sure that you complete your work efficiently. You are absolutely loyal and do the best you can in order to make sure the job will be properly completed. Though your sense of duty is admirable, beware that it does not turn into perfectionism - which can manifest itself in every aspect of your life.”

This description also gives a description of the way I engage in my creativity and also when curating sonic journeys. I decided this Arcana mix would showcase the breadth of my love of Electronic music from Downtempo to more Deep Uptempo Organic Beats. This set ranges from 108bpm to 120bpm. I ended up playing it LIVE on a Saturday Evening in a friends lounge room with my speakers positioned behind me as I sat facing 7 of my close friends as they lay and sat on the couches in front immersed in the journey of my musical expression of who I believe I am. I didn’t actually realise how profound of an experience it would be for me performing this mix and also for the few who experienced it LIVE.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional sounds of the Middle East and Iran, Ali has melded these influences with the infectious energy of Coco Poco Loco’s Pink parties and the immersive vibes of bbb's Dome (Home). When I was asked to create a mix inspired by the Ace of Shields, it felt like the perfect chance to tell a story—one about beginnings, growth, and finding your footing in the world. The Ace of Shields is all about fresh starts and grounding yourself. It’s about grabbing the opportunities life hands you and trusting the journey ahead. It’s a reminder to stay connected to the Earth, to the physical, to what’s real—and to use that as your shield against fear and doubt. This month, we're joined by one of Melbourne’s most respected selectors, Cara Murphy — a standout figure in Australia’s underground scene.

Cara has held residencies at iconic venues and club nights like Onesixone and Doesn’t Matter Melbourne. She has made regular appearances at beloved spots such as Revolver Upstairs, The Emerson, and Storyville, as well as supported international heavyweights including Sasha, Monkey Safari, Mees Salomé, and Low Steppa. Cara has also performed on stages for Defected and Glitterbox tours, plus the global platform of Amsterdam Dance Event 2023.

Awarded Best DJ at the 2023 Music Victoria Awards, Cara recently stepped into production with her debut track “Dusk” on Valiant Records — a boutique underground house imprint run by Tom Evans and Jacob Malmo, under the Vicious label group.

This mix is pure journey. Hypnotic, cinematic, and built for deep listening.
