This song is about a dying man and how he experiences death. 

In the first part he is confused, all his negative feelings (fear, anger etc) strikes him with their full potential. That pushes him towards total despair and as his hidden thoughts, painful memories and every suppressed emotion surfaces he feels like his world is out of control everything turned against him and he looses consciousness. That's why the beginning is so rough the music reflects the "everything is against me" feeling.
The transition between the first and second part is how the spirit leaves the body. The song becomes light and airy. He regains consciousness and sees as the male part of his being unites with the female part (white light, father=male part; red light, mother=female part). When he melts into this unified state his mind becomes clear, he realizes he is dead and he starts to look back on his former life clearly as it was. 
Thats when the ambient guitar part comes in. Musically it's strict, clear, and weaving, like the stream of memories that comes to his mind. Then in the end of this part he recognizes where he failed and how he ended up here. 
The solo in the end of the ambient part is the cry of the soul, the sadness of not being able to go back in time an redo things. 
Then comes the piano. The music becomes nearly happy, there are harmonies and it's more square then the other parts before. That's because the man is relieved calm and confident, ready to fix things. This is where he makes his wish for a chance, just to tell everyone that life is about to be happy from the bottom of your heart, by not doing, what he did.  
The next solo/transition is how his inner-self the purest, enlightened part of his mind appears before him. The transition describes some of the qualities of this enlightened-self. Like it is hard to follow, pure and beautiful as a child, but majestic as an emperor. The chords of this part is what the inner-self tells to the man. It allows him to go back to life to tell everything he realized to the other people.
