Banoffee Pies Records in its 10th year of operations welcomes UK based artist Syz to the label for the 22nd Original Series Release via their “Headspin” EP. Kicking off 2023 with a 5 track collection of shape shifting hybrid techno ear worms including the digital single “Burner FM”. 

Distinctly playful compositions from an artist continually paving their own sonic path between drum heavy and broken beat UK techno. Focused and dynamic club music made for the sound system explored through always evolving, grime influenced post dubstep sounds and percussions. BPR x

New sub-imprint of Rua Sound, SPHERES initializes with Rome-based artist Noroi for a dark and raw 4 track of deep jungle and break cuts. Based on the Irish west coast, the label aims to provide a home for the moodier side of the hardcore spectrum beyond its preexisting Foxy Jangle and Rua Sound stations. 

Noroi's 'Transoceanic' combines forceful breakbeat arrangements with gliding uplifting synth backgrounds. A real hot stepper of the big beat proportion, this one goes  off.

Water Cycle

The fifth transmission on BRUK comes from Chewlie, a breakthrough artist from Switzerland adept at sculpting tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. Following up on her 2022 Creature LP for YUKU, this eight-track deep dive explores nervous hallways of dislocated rhythm with a UK soundsystem attitude and a subtle but striking approach to sound design.
 
In contrast with the strident melodic tones of Creature, Chewlie demonstrates her versatility as a sonic artist (alongside her established work as a graphic designer). Understated moodiness is the key here, resulting in powerful heads-down immersion heaters with stand-out moments to make the floor fall in line amidst meditative, patient pauses in between. In the field of leftfield dubwise club music, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with purpose and poise, slotting into the firmament of BRUK as another natural misfit in the many-sided bassweight landscape.

A deeply personal selector - with radars for the wacky, the moody and the lowercase - mi-el’s style is a deft balancing act, from sung soundscapes and explorations of her heritage to contemporary bass, electro, and vanguard electronics.

Those who’ve caught her live will know the former MOT booker and now NTS resident is apt to blur the thinning line between selector and sound artist, having torn up countless great nights, venues and festivals in just a few years: dare we say Panorama Bar, Field Maneuvers, Boiler Room, De School, Big Dyke Energy and FOLD. It’s folk wisdom, almost a given at this point, that mi-el is killing it.
