As Circulation, Paul Davis has found himself at the leading edge of underground dance music for over 25 years. Initially, with former production partner Matt Jackson, Circulation was responsible for a string of high-profile releases for the likes of Bedrock, Selador and Hooj Choons with performances at Fabric (London), Creamfields (Argentina) and Sónar (Barcelona). Now making his Particles debut, "Mistinguette" is an elegantly constructed melodic gem that lilts gently across its near 7-minute timeframe with a clicking / popping top-line and sub-bass groove. Sumptuous pads and liberally scattered effects add to the luxurious canopy of sound before an ethereal vocal line opens up the breakdown to spine-tingling effect. Picking up the rhythmic poise again in the second half combined with melodic charm and vocal phrasing, the track is a magical debut offering.

Jamie Stevens has been a regular contributor to Proton labels over a star-studded career stretching back more than two decades first through work with the ARIA award-winning, Infusion act. Alongside work for Bedrock, microCastle and Meanwhile, 5 remixes for Proton Music have showcased an inimitable Australian talent with reworkings for the likes of Petar Dundov, James Monro and Hrag Mikkel, the latter in December 2023. Now returning to Particles after a May 2020 remix of Sam Hopgood's "Lobster", the Jamie Stevens remix takes "Mistinguette" on a propane-fuelled journey of chunky beats and synth phrasing. A mesmerising motif forms a foundation from the second movement from which a panoply of new phrases, effects, scattered sounds and vocal flourishes evolve into a new interpretation that moves into familiar sounding territory in the second half to share a common theme with Circulation's original.

An artist with a long and successful career both as globally touring DJ, producer and label owner, the UK-born, Brazilian-based James Monro has had a string of hits on both Proton labels. A half-century of releases comes on Proton Music, not least through 3 volumes of the successful "Sanctuary" series, while remixes for Derek Howell, Sapiens & Springa, Roger Martinez and VovaWave sprinkle stardust across the Particles catalogue. Now returning to the label for the first time since 2019, the James Monro remix of "Mistinguette" is a typically powerful and driving number that takes the core melodic themes of the original and transforms them into a club-friendly banger. A chest-thumping kick, ticking hi-hat groove and rousing glissando bassline sequence provide the backdrop, while a swathe of new melodies entwine easily with familiar chord progressions and sweeping pads. The result is another stunning James Monro interpretation.
