Glasgow based DJ and producer Nyla has been on our radar ever since he sent us his Wood Island Bass track. We don't hear a lot of dubstep coming out of Ireland, and it was refreshing to hear someone local experimenting outside of the typical house and techno format.

He's channeled that experimental focus in this breakneck mix brimming with furious techno, speedcore, electro, jungle and juke that doesn't give you time to breathe. Open the fucking clubs.

Shugo Noss is the co-founder of the @Fantaesia parties, and has been a part of the underground electronic music scene in Naarm since 2016. With a style that is quick and heavy, stemming from a background in Deathcore and Black metal, Shugo has garnered a love for speed that is purely driven by a lust to create a culture of escapism and self expression.

Soma Records’ electro sub-label, Avoidant Records assemble a fresh rogue squadron for another massive compilation as 16 electro warriors take on the ‘Dark Planet’.

After the impact of last year's huge ‘Defend Your Planet’ VA, Avoidant immediately set about recruiting another incredible group of artists that represent the Glasgow based label’s output. ‘Dark Planet’ brings together established, classic and up and coming producers who take their cues from the Detroit and European schools of electro. @cyan85 has become a real reference for all electro heads since his debut release back in 2019.
His new LP on Curtis Electronix is a jaw dropping journey on those Motorways we all have ridden in a way or another. The vocoded vocals, reminiscent of those Greats, the squelchy bass lines ripping up the 808 riffs and the sulphuric synth lines will drive you from darkness into light and back again, defining, at the same time, the quality signature of this record. The process is clearly the basis of this work. The Roots are clearly the reason.

bzzzzz… bzzzz… VSA Radio is transmitting… For today’s broadcast we have the pleasure of inviting DJ Algorythm (she/her) into the studio. DJ Algorythm is the DJ project of the artist Vinnie Gotfredsen, known for her work as director and producer at Bedside Productions. Vinnie’s sound is an ecletic and quirky mashup of many genres including breakbeat, glitch, happy hardcore and trance. It’s soft, it’s hard, it’s cute and it’s sexy. Close your eyes and enjoy the ride with DJ Algorythm:

“I want to create a different musical experience where the listener will be challenged in their usual expectations of a dance floor set - it won’t necessarily be easy to enjoy and they might get obstructed in their dancing, but if they catch on beyond this point, a curiosity will be awaken and that’s where it gets interesting for me. Im all in for the mind-bending and deconstructing of the club but I will also please with alternative takes on pop classics and catchy high pitched vocals.

A lot of teenage nostalgia and internet-zooming lies behind my selection of tracks and Im hyper-aware of the symbolism and effect music have on people, that’s why I also tend to make my own edits of songs where I “feminize” vocals or cut out any trace of toxic masculinity - I believe in manifesting queerness through my music and I feel emotionally connected to all the tracks I play, so I hope the listener will get a sense of my personality when they listen to this mix.

It’s a big honour for me to release this mix for Ved Siden Af, a place where I at last in my life feel a sense of “belonging”
