I'm picking a few bars of some favourite tracks and kind of reverse / forward engineering them in Logic X. A loose time restriction of a couple of hours to see how close I can get my own recording and mix to the originals......then maybe I'll use the mix environment to stick in a song of my own.

An 'In The Style Of' experiment to find out what would happen if the world's chords went on strike. We're left with a skeleton staff of one chord sequence - 21 mangled tune snippets to spot!

Starts with my recording of 'Red Hot Chili Peppers - Cant Stop' in the correct form (Em D Bm C*) and then I speedily record and mix a selection of songs and styles twisted into the same chords.

*Detuned a semitone

4 days with Logic X on a Mac Mini, electric guitar / bass direct input, MIDI keyboard and a mic for acoustic guitar.

Breaking down some famous tunes and then recording them from scratch to fit new chords, some successfully, some painfully (until you've worked on them long enough to forget the originals).

Always been obsessed with Extreme and Nuno. First heard this live in Birmingham back in the 90’s and was left wondering what on earth it was until they put it on their 4th album. It's been a goal ever since to master it. I tried to suss it out, then they brought out the tab book and it helped to a degree but parts just seemed harder than they needed to be..........then years on they toured in two thousand and something, I got up close and figured the darn tab was defintiely wrong in places. Reinspired and lots of slowing it down back at home and watching live videos leave me with it fairly sussed. But it needs regular practise to keep anywhere near to the Nuno.

I might write a lesson out on it sometime........

Midnight Express

Musical and computery person (I can compose/record but also recover the files when it crashes).

My fretting hand is full of raw rock guitar riffs whilst my mousing hand clicks out quirky jingles.

Was surrounded by recording and musical equipment in the womb, picked up a guitar in 1983 - am now a jumble of the following:

*Music teacher based around guitars......acoustic, electric, bass.
*Work with song writers to write / record / gig - Abbo, Matt Carpanini, Paul Roberts (of Stranglers past), Amy Tinsley, Matt Culpepper (Creative Music Services).
*Gig guitar / bass and backing vocals in pubs / clubs / functions in various styles from mellow acoustic to chunky funk to widdly rock.
*Computer brain whispers to digital audio workstations.
*Author of Xtreme Guitar tuition book/CD series.

Sometimes I find the time to add to this random collection of tunes.......of course if someone pays me I drop everything and I'm straight on it.

Take on some tunes and help me to sleep at night (well, from 3am to midday-ish). Likings and Repositings etc. spur me on no end. Thanks.
