Miike Snow - Genghis Khan (ArGii Remix)

A song I co-wrote, recorded, and produced with Jonathan Hernandez! 

It was sometime in 2015, Jon had come over feeling the mood to write. We had attempted a ballad or two before but this time, he was in an entirely different head space. We kept the lights off, save for a candle or two, and let the light shine in from the shopping mall down below in the city. 

He had come with some written words, and a melody he recorded on his phone. I picked up my acoustic guitar and just started riffing some chords as quietly as I could. Within about 20 minutes we had it down and so he went into the vocal booth (just a massive closet soundproofed by the thousands of shirts I own and a few candles that were waiting to start a fire). I stayed at the other end of the room with my guitar and a single microphone.

I think we did about 3 takes but the first one is the one that stuck and is the one that you hear. It was such a humbling, heart wrenching experience that you can hear. Those keyboard sounds...his vocals. Hope you enjoy it in all its glory.

NOTES:

Pret-A-Manger literally translates to “ready to eat” 

A Mezzanine could either be between two floors like the elevators of NYC subways or about a loan you can’t get out of

“Alligators come out from sewers to the clubs” is part reference to Radiohead, part reference to the fable, and just because I literally wanted to imagine alligators going wild in clubs….if ever there were an album cover, I’d have “Joe’ll Paint It” do the artwork.
