This spring we had the amazing opportunity of playing the book release party for Rich Cohen’s “The Sun & The Moon & The Rolling Stones”. To celebrate the release, the band put our heads together to rework, reinterpret, and create covers of iconic stone’s songs. While it turned out the three songs we chose to debut at the performance were all off of Some Girls (of which Rich Cohen considered the Stone’s last great work), we combined dance instrumentation and the a&w sound to create something truly unique. During the week leading up to the book release party we had locked in some studio time at Germano Studios (Which… turned out to be the same location where Keith recorded his last solo record)... and tracked our version of Beast of Burden. Our cover speaks to the themes of the original record, but we did our best to give it a “dance” upgrade.

Beast of Burden (argonaut&wasp cover)

The song was written late at night, in a state of utter confusion - our minds were cluttered with frustration, an internal bully and an internal underdog, how can we express this feeling of internal conflict but to have these two characters, these two iconic figures come to life through a narrative. We had them play out in our songwriting, the sound design, and the creation of this piece.

The sounds + sights of New York City shifted our perspective on music, why we do it and how we listen to it. This EP is a reaction to that. And as we scramble to make sense of it, we realize it’s just what we make it.

It was the beginning of summer last year and I had quit my desk job / broke up with my girlfriend shortly before a show at The Middle East in Boston. After the gig, we crashed at a friends apartment across the street. I was having a hard time falling asleep and found a Uke laying around, so I noodled on it until I passed out. The next morning I found Heart Breaks In Bloom as a voice memo on my cell.

Argonaut & Wasp was created with the goal of combining the vulnerability of a rock show with the energy of a house club. Formed in the dorms of the University of Vermont in 2013 the band started as a DJ / live show, playing packed basement parties to sold out festivals. In 2015, they packed their gear and moved to Brooklyn where they built a studio in Crown Heights. After releasing numerous singles and EP's independently, they signed with +1 Records and are released their debut album, STARLIGHT 99 on April 30 2021.
