The Mix is our new online mix and interview series, dedicated to the spectrum of electronic music from around the globe, exploring sounds and stories from the early days of rave to the future.

Mixmag has a long history of publishing mixes, from our legendary cover CDs accompanying the print magazine to our worldwide video streams in The Lab. Last year we celebrated 40 years in the game and The Mix now arrives as a fresh outlet to document DJs and the musical movements they represent, showcasing their sound alongside an in-depth interview. The design pays homage to a previous Mixmag logo from the ealy ’90s, nodding to our heritage while using the square and rectangular building blocks to construct an aesthetic that works cohesively with contemporary design elements and digital motion systems.

We’ll still be bringing you the Cover Mix, The Lab and occasional sets in other formats, with The Mix is taking the place of our In Session and Impact features, intending to bring an updated look and vision to our flagship weekly DJ profile and sequencing them into one place, without separation. We hope you enjoy.

The Mix 003: Miley Serious

I bought my first electronic record in the 80s as a child in my hometown Bellinzona (near Lugano). It was Kraftwerk's album "Computerwelt". This album sparked my thirst for more innovative music, which was nearly nonexistent in our area during the 80s. There was a radio DJ show in Milan called "Radio DJ" that played electronic music, but to hear what I liked, I had to venture out of my small town. In Zurich, towards the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, after much hesitation, as I was usually the only woman, I explored the record stores and discovered my love for techno, which paved my way into the wider world because I wanted to live where there was techno and like-minded people. I moved to Zurich, then to Cologne, where I experienced wonderful rave times at the legendary Warehouse Club and spontaneously commuted between Frankfurt, Belgium, NRW and London, where I heard one of the most inpiring DJs at the time at Heaven: Mrs. Wood, and where I got to experience the amazing Club ,Turnmills'. After that, I moved to Munich, where I had the pleasure of experiencing wonderful nights of dancing at the Ultrashall and the Flokati.
Now I'm in Berlin, where of course many techno enthusiasts land. As a woman, I didn't dare to DJ back then, although many DJ friends encouraged me on my journey. Yetti (formerly DJ Miss Yetti) was braver and paved the way for many women who were hesitant; she persuaded me to overcome my fears decades later, in 2019. In the early 90s, we were usually the only women (with Sabine Christ from Housefrau, the first show about electronic music in Germany) in the Delirium record store. Over these more than 30 years, I've had the privilege of hearing such amazing artists who continue to make fantastic music, like Hardfloor. At this point, I want to express my gratitude for the "The Sound of Lugano" remix, which contains everything I love: acid, funk, and Lugano ;-) and how wonderful it is to experience young artists like Natanael Megersa, who recently created wonderful productions. Techno will always be my companion, and I look forward to sharing this love with you on the dancefloor someday.
