*Celebrating 25 Years of Islamic Na’at Groups: A Legacy of Iman and Culture*

Allah be thanked abundantly for the visionary El-Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Jilani, who, 25 years ago today, established the Islamic Na’at Groups. His dream was simply profound: to inspire Muslims to compose and recite hamdo naat in praise of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and His Chosen Rasool, Nabi Muhammad Al-Mustafaa (peace be upon his noble countenance) without borrowing tunes from non-Muslim / unislamic sources and without the use of haram/forbidden instruments. 

At a time when Islamic culture was struggling and many traditions were being buried by the dunya (worldly people), El-Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Jilani’s efforts offered a lifeline. He envisioned a community where an-Nasheed al-Islamia, poetry, and devotion could flourish side by side, nurturing the spiritual and artistic talents of every generation.
Today, his vision has blossomed beyond imagination. American children can be found reciting Quran Shareef, poetry and also nasheed written by their peers, celebrating the beauty of Islamic culture and heritage. What was once distant and inaccessible is now alive in the hearts of young Muslims, who are readily expressing their faith through art and language.

The impact of these 25 years cannot be overstated. Islamic Na’at Groups have not only preserved a sacred tradition—they have revived a sense of identity, like the Sahabi Hasan bin Thabit, and connection to ancestors whose voices were attempted to be silenced by other's words who write history to fit their narrative. Through each poem and nasheed, children learn more than words; they inherit values, spirituality, and a living link to the Rasool of Allah's teachings (peace be upon his noble countenance).

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor not just a founder but a movement that continues to inspire hearts and minds. May Allah bless El-Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Jilani abundantly for his vision, and may the next generations continue to carry this legacy forward with the same devotion, creativity, and love for Allah and His beloved Rasool ﷺ.

Tanam Farsooda Jaan Para 
Farsi:
تنم فرسودہ، جاں پارہ ز ہجراں، یا رسول اللہ
دلم پژمردہ، آوارہ ز عصیاں، یا رسول اللہ
Translation:
My body is dissolving in your separation & my soul is breaking into pieces. Ya Rasulullah!
Due to my sins, My heart is weak and becoming enticed. Ya Rasulullah!
Urdu:
یا رسول اللہ، آپ سے دوری کی وجہ سے میرا تن فرسودہ اور جان پارہ پارہ ہو چکی ہے اور میرا دل گناہوں کی وجہ سے مرجھایا ہوا اور آوارہ ہے (بھٹک رہا ہے)
Transliteration
Tanam Farsooda Jaan Para, Ze Hijra Ya Rasul Allah
Dillam Paz Murda Aawara, Ze Isyaa. Ya Rasul Allah!


Punjabi:
ہے میری جان تے تن تارا تارا یا رسول اللہ ۖ، ہے دل دکھیاں گناوا نال سارا یا رسول اللہ

چوں سوئے من گذر آری، منِ مسکیں ز ناداری
فدائے نقشِ نعلینت کنم جاں، یا رسول اللہ
Translation:
When you pass by me
Then even in my immense poverty, ecstatically,
I must sacrifice my soul on your blessed sandal. Ya Rasulullah!
Urdu:
اگر آپ (ص) کبھی میری طرف تشریف لائیں تو میں مسکین ناداری اور عاجزی سے آپ کے نعلینِ مبارک کے نقش پر اپنی جان قربان کر دوں۔

Transliteration
Choon Soo’e Mun Guzar Aari, Manne Miskeen Zanaa Daari
Fida-E-Naqsh-E-Nalainat, Kunam Ja. Ya Rasul Allah!
Punjabi:
جے آجاوے کدی ویڑے میرے تے تیریاں جتیاں تو کرا قربان تن من اپنا سارا یا رسول اللہ

Farsi:
زجامِ حب تو مستم، با زنجیر تو دل بستم
نمی گویم کہ من ھستم سخنداں، یا رسول اللہ
Translation:
I am drowned in the taste of your love
And the chain of your love binds my heart.
Yet I don’t say that I know this language (of love). Ya Rasulullah!
Urdu:
آپ کی محبت کے جام سے میں مست ہوں اور میرا دل آپ کی زنجیر سے بندھا ہوا ہے، میں یہ نہیں کہتا کہ میں کوئی سخندان ہوں (یہ سب تو فقط آپ کی محبت سے ہے)۔
Transliteration
Ze Jaame Hubb To Mustam, Ba Zanjeere To Dil Bustam
Nu’mi Goyam Ke Mun Bustum, Sukun Daa. Ya Rasul Allah!

ز کردہ خویش حیرانم، سیاہ شد روز عصیانم
پشیمانم، پشیمانم، پشیماں، یا رسول اللہ
Translation:
I am worried due to my misdeeds;
And I feel that my sins have blackened my heart. Ya Rasulullah!
Urdu:
اپنے کیے پر میں حیران و پریشان ہوں، میرے نصیب میرے گناہوں سے سیاہ ہو چکے ہیں اور اس پر یا رسول اللہ میں پشمیان ہوں، پشیمان ہوں، پشیمان ہوں۔
Transliteration
Ze Kharda Khaish Hairaanam, Siyaa Shud Roze Isyaanam
Pashemaanam, Pashemaanam, Pashemaanam. Ya Rasul Allah!
Punjabi:
میرا منہ ہو گیا کالا گناہاں دی سیاہی تو میں کیوں کیتی ہے پچھتاوا نکارا یا رسول اللہ

چوں بازوئے شفاعت را کشائی بر گناہگاراں
مکن محروم جامی را در آں، یا رسول اللہ ۖ
Translation:
Ya Rasulullah! When you spread your hands to intercede for the sinners,
Then do not deprive Jaami of your (Ya Rasul Allah) exalted intercession.
Urdu:
یا رسول اللہ جیسے کہ آپ کے شفاعت کے بازو گناہگاروں کے لیے کھلے ہوئے ہیں تو جامی کو اس (شفاعت) سے محروم نہ کیجیئے۔
Transliteration
Choon Baazoo’e Shafaa’at Raa, Khushaa’I Bar Gunaagara
Makun Mahruume Jaami Raa, Daraa Aan. Ya Rasul Allah!

گناہگارا تے کھولے جس گھڑی بحشش دا دروازہ ، نہ پلے اس گھڑی جامی بچارا یا رسول اللہ

نسیما ! جانب بطحا گزر کن
ز احوالم محمد را خبر کن
اے صبا بطحا کی طرف چل
میرے احوال حضورؐ کو سنا
O morning breeze! set out towards Bat’haa,”
Inform Muhammad of my plight
ببریں جانِ مشتاقم بہ آں جا
فدائے روضہ خیر البشر کُن
میری بے تاب جان کو اُس جگہ لے جا
تا کہ یہ حضور کے روضہ اقدس پر نثار ہو جائے
Take me to that place so that 
I sacrifice my life at the shrine of Muhammad (best of mankind)
توئی سلطان عالم یا محمد
زروئے لطف سوئے من نظر کن
یا رسول اللہ آپ ہی دونوں جہان کے سلطان ہیں
آپ نگاہ کرم مجھ پر ڈالیں
Muhammad ; You, who are the Emperor of both worlds
Cast your graceful, blessed glance towards me
مشرف گرچہ شد جامی زلطفش
خدایا ! ایں کرم با ر دگر کن
جامی اگرچہ آپؐ کے لطف سے محظوظ ہو گیا
یا اللہ یہ کرم بار بار ہو
Although you have showered your grace on Jami
In God’s name, grant him this favor once again.

This track along with a few others, are amongst the songs I almost lost do to a data tragedy I had. I contemplated never releasing it because it wasn't where I wanted it to be. But, after listening to it to hear if it was any good, it reminded me of a space I was in and how it helped me singing and recording it.
