Last December Dublin Digital Radio celebrated their 4th birthday. As part of a weekend of celebrations myself and Declan Synnott recorded a long conversation. Declan Synnott is not only a gentleman, he’s also scholar – with an actual PhD in Punk. I know I’ve talked about my own perceived parallels between Punk and Traditional Irish music many times in the past, but I think this is the most in depth and articulate it has ever come out. Arís (pronounced: ah-reesh) presents the first in a new series of 90’s/early 00’s Irish Dance reissues with ARIS01; 2 remastered tracks from Bumble’s 1992 EP ‘West In Motion’ b/w a new remix from Brame & Hamo.

To honour this important record on its 30th anniversary, we have remastered 2 tracks from the original EP and invited one of West Ireland’s greatest exports Brame & Hamo to remix it; their pumping proggy take, a fitting complement to the spirit of that original era. Revisiting West In Motion after all these years helps highlight how crucial it is to the canon of modern Irish music, and will hopefully help introduce Bumble to a whole new generation as a result.

Fire Draw Near Episode XXIX features songs by the Watersons, songs from the north of England, a song by Lingua Ignota, songs from Scotland, songs and tunes from Ireland as well as some puerile nonsense from the 1940s.

Fire Draw Near Episode XXIX

This V/A sums up everything we are about, featuring 27 tracks that span the electronic music spectrum from Downtempo, Ambient, Chug, House, Electronic, to Rave, acid and breaks. It features lots of local unsigned Leeds artists where we are based, upcoming and rising artists, International Talent and a few well-respected names who have played our party over the years. 

This V/A has been put together to showcase the next wave of artists, our local scene, the diverse sound of Limit and to raise money for charity. 

All proceeds will be donated 1/3 equally to Mind, Womens Aid & Trees for cities and we are aiming to raise a modest 3K for charity.

All tracks have been specially put together for this release and curated carefully over the past year since January 2020.

Dashiellʼs debut LP on his own imprint Pollinate Records is set to hit the virtual
shelves this August.
Recorded from 2020 - 2022 in the Melbourne suburb of Coburg, the album
features field recordings of the artists local area and surroundings, as well as
experimental synthesis and drum patterns. Unlike his more dance floor
orientated releases on Felt Sense and Animalia, the album exposes a deeper,
more personal reflection of the artist.
Undefinable by a single genre, Dashiell explores varying styles and narratives
throughout the piece, revisiting familiar glitchy territories and exploring foreign
ambient soundscapes. The work delivers a sonic rendition of an uncertain
future, as optimistic as it is cynical.
Dashiell has just recently returned from a string of European shows with his
band Ménage, including gigs at The Breakfast Club party in Amsterdam and
Harmony Records party in Prague. With more time now to focus on his Label
Pollinate, Dashiell is determined to shine light on Melbourne based producers
and artists with more releases from the label expected this year.
The album will be released on CD and digital formats available through the
Pollinate Records Bandcamp.

To close out a brilliant year from R.A.N.D Muzik recordings; RM241220. Back when we spoke to label boss Reece Walker in the summer he spoke on his appreciation for compilations; "I just really enjoy them. I feel like a good compilation is just such a good record. A different style in every part of the record"

The final compilation of 2020 for R.A.N.D features Carmel and Salomo as well as DJ Detox, both fresh of white hot releases on the label. Bufiman whose full length released on Dekmantel earlier this year and last but not least Roza Terenzi.

Katie Campbell's breakout year has been disrupted and discharged by much of the pandemic. Regardless, in 2020 she recorded potentially the best RA mix we at Mantissa have ever heard, as well as releasing a full length awesome album on Planet Euphorique which sold out across all corners of the internet almost instantly.

The sound and style she has crafted, created and choreographed for herself is ever-present in her addition to this compilation; 'Sit On My Interface'.  A head churning burner, thumping-ly soothing and destined for rocking ruckus clubs when life returns to normal.

An introductory overview of the printed ballad in Ireland, this episode looks at the people who sang them, the people who sold them, the people who bought them and the people who hated them. Anyone wishing to investigate this topic further is strongly advised to take a look at Dr. John Moulden's authoritative thesis on the subject - 'The printed ballad in Ireland: a guide to the popular printing of songs in Ireland 1760-1920', which served as the basis for my own understanding of the subject.

The first release of Escape Artist’s new imprint is a various artists affair brought together by the power of friendship. After years of being sent amazing music by new and old friends from near and afar, the time has come to share this joy with the rest of the world. As a label, we will seek to shine a light on psychedelic music of all designs and the first release will focus on the dance variety. It is the label’s hope that the love and friendship that brought this project together will shine through in the music. 

Side A opens with cris. p’s ‘Lemon’, a mid-tempo breakbeat roller that epitomises the ideal qualities of a track found in an opening set. Playful acid notes and indecipherable spoken work glisten against a backdrop of thumping kicks and warm sub bass. Grim Beazley’s ‘Acid Leaf’ evokes a memory of crowded peak time floors. The song’s gentle introduction gives way to powerful 303/909 interplay and leaves us yearning to go back to that place.

Hex Editor’s transcendental breakbeat dreamscape ‘Tuesday’ opens the B side with expert precision. Soaring pads and swimming arpeggios provide the perfect spot for the listener to land after their flight from the previous side. Escape Artist & cris. p’s ‘People Division’ rounds out the release. A kaleidoscopic downtempo introduction leads to a groove punctuated with intricate polyrhythmic basslines. Produced during lockdown, this piece is an attempt to sonically manifest our collective desire to return to the dancefloor.

PSY SECTION was founded on stolen land. We acknowledge that this release was created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging.
