4/17/2024: I'm posting the jam version from Ludum Dare 55 now because so many people have been commenting about the soundtrack! <3 <3 I'm still planning on releasing an extended / "official" polished version of this soundtrack later and put those on the other streaming services as well! It might include some bonus tracks that didn't make it into the jam game too :D

Space Cowboy Showdown

Practicing some cinematic strings.

Notes:
- Working on my EQ-ing for an online course I'm going through. Holy crap! It makes a difference. Those strings didn't sit well in the mix before, and I somewhat made it better. Gotta keep practicing.
- Practicing using OTT. Didn't realize it added so much clarity.
- It's surprisingly easy to write some tense string chord progressions in an evening
- Learned about M/S EQ-ing and that it can make sounds wider
- Also learned about how to use a delay to make things sound wider. If you put L at 1.0 ms and R at 8.0 ms with 100% wet it can trick your brain into having it sound spacious! Science!
- previous version apparently I forgot to uncheck headphones on bass mono on utility giving it that weird rumbliness.
- doubled the strings with dry strings to fill it out a bit
- loudness meter to make sure it's mixed at -14 lufs
- cut the rumbliness at 100 Hz

Dramatic Strings

Was trying to capture some vibes for an upcoming Numenera campaign... GM wanted a slightly more synthy ghibli vibe so here we are, we've got a bit of ghibli chords with some... scarlet nexus arp vibes?

Several moogs were used in the creation of this track. Truly I am obsessed with them.

So this is actually a finished version of a live session I posted over a year ago that I happened to record while I was mildly inebriated. Randomly I decided to pick it up again and... well I really like what came out of it.

Notes for myself:
- Tried to keep some of the motifs from the original reference track to connect them logically, but overall tried to reframe it to be creamier and subtlely grandiose with the bass and reverb
- Sparkly zither-sounding pluck on the top to give it a different / magical feel
- Spent way too long trying to figure out why that pluck sounded really harsh, turns out OTT was too much and saturation worked better for that
- Similar to keeping motifs, I also kept some of the same instruments, and only changed out a few of them to keep consistency with reference track(removed percussion entirely though since I wanted a less whimsical feel)
- Took the key up whole step from the reference track so that the transition between the two gives you a bit of a lift / ethereal feel

This isn't mixed or mastered at all since it was just a homework assignment. I might replace it later with a finished version.

I started music production school! I'm not normally a samples-based music producer, but now I get to learn how to do it from all the electronic music folks! 

Anyway here we go... this track has some Cult of the Lamb energy. I had way too much fun with vocal samples XD

And here we go -- my second track in the Andrew Huang Monthly course!

The goal of this second track was to create a track from samples. Every sound you hear in this track except for the bass came from something in my kitchen!! This track was incredibly fun to make! Also...as you may have guessed, most of these sounds come from my sodastream.

Practice notes:
- Time warping is amazing and unique to Ableton (I think). That was how I got that rhythm out of the Sodastream sounds!
- So many tricks for creating instruments! The organ sound actually came from me smacking this glass pitcher and then only pulling the reverb off of it to make the organ.
- Tin lids makes for excellent snares.
- Plastic mixing bowls make for excellent kicks.
- Chopping long samples and randomly pitching them up and down is a super cool effect...I might use that again some day.
- Reversing sounds makes for really cool textures!
