New Action Hero

This song was supposed to be vaguely dark and menacing. I was looking to write something in a minor key (D minor in this case) with multiple parts in different meters layering in and out. That was going to create a kind of tense, open, sonic space to play some guitars over. But as I was working on it my five year old son, Adrian, came in and started dancing to it. That changed everything. D minor became D major. Dark and menacing became whimsical. And guitar became 80s synth sounds. 

I don’t think I’m done with this one. I think there are other places to go with it, and I want to explore some guitar ideas. But this feels like a great snapshot of what my process is, and how things can unexpectedly change when a little bit of joy enters the equation. Which applies to life just as much as it does to music.
