I found her

on the gilded cloud,

Whispering sounds thick with life,

Out here wading where I stay,

Turning my page to write

tolling my internal volume,

I remove my eyes every time

to see none of their back feed,

For this is my song,

And this is my read,

My heed without the hand or eye,

Warming minds to an orange light

with soft, grounded feet,

My arms to hold you,

raise to drive on,

Strong limbs waving in breaded winds

Held high by the

Hurricane vibe of her song,

As I too am water,

Drawn to sparks of the divine

And storms of sound,

showering with assurance,

Cleansing; ethereal in

Acknowledgement and dismissal of

The chill and dead weight drowning

in this life

And when I allow,

my eyes see her from inside a journey I’ve taken

again and again,

Watching them, looking in,

attempting to understand and then explain away

this intangible gem,

Clouds to which I’m somehow called

to draw upon,

And drive on longing to

Move my pen

Acceptance – by Arkay Evans

My faith is mine,
and I am Free to decide.
My faith
is the why
of who I am and the how
of what I do,
My faith
is mine to define,
and I don't need acceptance from you,
The acceptance I need
must come from ME.
Acceptance,
for the things that I cannot control,
Acceptance for the decadence;
To deal with small minds incapable of
mutual respect,
Acceptance 
for the wrongdoings of others with no lament,
Acceptance for the luxury of procrastination
taken at my expense,
ACCEPTANCE
of the fact that I can never change these wrongs
no matter what I do,
Acceptance that I too have needs,
and that as a woman I am more than worthy to receive
the Love and Care that I Give and Value,
My Faith is the Freedom of Knowing My Truth!
My Faith provides the Energy and Drive
I need on this journey - to make it on through!
My faith is mine.
I am Free to decide,
and I don't need acceptance
from you

The River Runs Deep

(The Power of a Praying Woman)

Between you and me,
there are rivers running in my sleep
And heaven's waters flowing 
down to streets where I have been and gone,
the lowest point to carry on,
where rock bottom
nurtures growth,
and troops evolved, twenty strong,
driving monsters, forty long,
praying tall against a demon,
laughing at the false retreat,
as the rivers teach to run deeper,
and waters flow to feed her,
givin birth to a universe
in waves rushin to the sea,
Sculping curves, and coming forth as 
A woman, heaven's masterpiece,
a creature whose soul is so ancient
only God truly appreciates it,
Yes, these rivers do run deep!
As she thrives
above the dangers of murk,
She dreams
In a city that never sleeps,
She grows among a people rejecting her,
and claims this peace as hers to keep,
Wrapping her arms of gladness,
lifting up the art of blackness
to be seen from outer space,
And these rivers flow,
cleansing dirty rainblows, and spilling us with heaven's grace
so love has depth,
a diamond the Divine protects
even deeper, feeding grasses even greener
acknowledging all of God's creatures
that grow to the knowing of her nature,
The connection between you and I, 
just starting out to just to get by
like trouble, crouching on the edge of existence,
stretching the truth,
we find our faith in hot pursuit,
hoping high and forward bound
blooming with a pure belief,
above the glass ceiling,
where a praying woman's favor 
is found

...An Original Love Story.

Here along familiar roads,
where lush and heavy limbs
are rich with juicy passion fruit
I am small,
Climbing on the rock wall
thinking every nook and cranny 
threatens my fall...
So I step right, push down
grab left, pull up,
I watch for loose, weak stones
hangin' on sheer luck, then
My mind went adrift into the breeze,
back to see the beauty rooms like these,
where my satin pumps and matching slip
Had his eyes glued into my hips
ignoring all the silence served
in unwritten rules of social streams 
where spirits all around us were mean,
because the alpha male fell 
for a strong Black queen...
Concentrate; look around.
Don't rely on sheer luck,
grab left, pull up
step right, push down...
Only dreams of heaven seem to be
stamped into my memory-
We fell in love and grew 
into one from distant two,
and forever know
that even along the turns and folds
of sweet and old familiar roads,
We are small...
Just like those pebbles on the rock wall,
Easily dislodged
Distracted and called
By what is lush and rich,
like true love, the juice of passion fruit;
and the solid rock that levitates
when all else falls to ill repute

Like Chocolate Do

Dedicated to all the generations who knew:  Having faith means taking action.  Faith is a VERB.

She runs her race
With her chocolate face,
Where people value chocolate most,
When chocolate stays
In chocolate's place,
Where to take a peaceful stand alone
Is insubordination,
And her comrades fall to incarceration 
as she questions each day she survived the first strike,
Tasting the toxic waste of bias
Till even her own thoughts begin to stink,
And her brain starts to think
That it feels like home to suffer and burn,
Like a hater in waiting for the season to turn,
And the creature she becomes disgusts you, 
she frightens you,
One chicka's failure is another one's friend,
Then they look around and wince with that 
false innocence saying,
"How could she come to such an end?"
But a cocoa woman can overcome ya!
It arouses you like chocolate do,
And irritates those with a sense of entitlement,
Those lighting up the blind spots that guarantee the have-nots
Get their hands on a damned good shot 
at living in abject poverty and violence,
Till chocolate gives up,
Says it feels like home to be locked up,
To be punished for the autumn of this filthy adaptation,
For striking back in wild frustration at the mis-education she was first disposed, 
Stabbing at herself with the first tool given,
Stoned and owned by these mushroom conditions,
Needing more faith, and a little less wishing
Cuz in Jesus,
that’s how chocolate rolls

LIKE CHOCOLATE DO

Oh yes... 
I'd seen him round the way,
and heard him read at spots;
Fell for him hard at the Wednesday Cafe'...
* 
My secret crush
made the pocket hot,
but I hid and told the girls he was just ok
when they tried to put me on the spot,
*
Then one Wednesday I heard him break-
With a flow and a style that seemed to be
the honey bling drawing me
in to say YES to a poet's first fling...
* 
I got lost in his soul-
I was found by hands that touched me
till I caught my breath,
I wanted so much
to feel them gently
making all the pieces fit,
* 
I longed for a ride on a poet's dark side
where he'd bring it by the pound
and I'd take it all astride...
* 
And the girls hadn't heard,
for months - not a word,
as I didn’t want to lie, belong or lead;
I was learning to receive,
And couldn’t watch as all mouths gaped
when our eyes locked
for his Wednesday read:
* 
"My love 
is nowhere to run, 
from the sun 
that burns inside for thee, 
Even the moon taunts me, 
and plays in your hair, 
the wind looks back to laugh 
at how it touches you before me, 
Howls to beat me down in lashes 
of this urban sahara, 
When concrete casts my psyche off
to bleak gray skies, my love, 
You are the light of my desire!
I am guided this way 
for a drink of thee, 
the spice that is my comfort;
the shade that is my tree"

speechless, there at The Wednesday Cafe',
when one poet's heart bled
