We welcome our next guest. Berwick is a Sheffield by Bristol DJ and producer focused on esoteric, rave-infused sounds encompassing a dance floor and environments that have inspired his music. His style runs through various BPMs and blends ambience and bliss into sharp electro, techno and breaks. Berwick is the co-founder of INDECENCY, a DIY party that hosts live electronic acts and DJs. With a release on SSS records getting support from Bambounou, Solid Blake, Lena Willikens, Anastasia Kristensen and many more high-calibre artists, Berwick is lining up for more sharp electro releases later on in the year. Berwick’s recent release on More Cowbell has had support from Blumitsu, Lena Willikens and Re:ni whilst also getting premiered by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 6. His latest project brings drum machines and a modular synth together to create an hour of fun-fuelled electro and techno with wobbly, acid lines and hard percussion that keep crowds moving.

Which artists has influenced you the most? 

- I’ve taken a lot of influence across a range of different genres to be honest. My sound and production style has an analog, electro tinge which I think has been guided by some magnificent artists like Radioactive Man, Surgeons Girl, Machine Woman, Karenn, Neil Landstrumm, Barker and so many others, I could really go on and on.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 

- I’ve got two releases set to come out from September onwards which I’m really excited about. The two tracks are a bit of a different style for me but I’m really happy with how they have turned out and the labels and artists I’ll be alongside are artists I find really inspiring. My main focus at the moment is my live set. I’ll be debuting it on Rinse FM really soon and the taking off to a few festivals in the UK.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- There’s some incredible labels that I’ve been digging into recently but to be honest I’m still so addicted to bbbbbb, Voam, Fever Am and Kalahari Oyster Cult. My goal is to work up to potentially releasing on one of these in the near future!

What inspires you now to create music? 

- Sooo many inspirations, being out in nature is probably one of the biggest for me. If I can find time throughout the week to walk, run or swim then I know it’s like a creative boost/reset for me. Equally gigs and festivals. Seeing other people shine and create an atmosphere is incredibly inspiring and usually after being in something like that I’m straight into the studio and creating sounds.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- Currently I’m using some Elektron gear, so I use the Analog Rytm, Syntakt and the Octatrack and then I have the modular system which is a wonderful sound design tool. I’ve been building up the modular synth for quite a while now and swapped quite a few things in and out but I think I’ve found a set up that really works for me. And of course Ableton, everything goes into Ableton but it’s also nice to spend a bit of time just in the DAW, I try and switch it up quite a bit and resample lots in Ableton.

We are insanely excited to present a crazy and non-trivial set by Cursor Miner filled with exclusive material. Cursor Miner is the musical Nom De Plume of electronic music producer Robert Tubb from Selsey,  UK. 
He has produced six albums, released on Lo Recordings, Uncharted Audio, Sine Language Records. His styles range from full-on Acidic Electro Bass club stompers to experimental New Wave synth pop, through avant garde abstract noise constructions all the way to tongue-in-cheek educational songs for infants (and the infantile at heart). 
Cursor Miner has also produced club-focused 12”s and EPs for Jerome Hill’s Don’t Recordings and Bleeper, Si Begg’s Noodles, Combat Recordings, Unbearable Recordings, Addictech, Seed Records, and more.
He has performed live sets in fifteen countries, in varied venues such as a Bohemian hilltop castle, a Soviet nuclear bunker, a disused London underground station, a Norfolk windmill, and the former headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Legendary festival appearances include Sonar, Latitude, Glade Festival, Unorthodox Paradox, Norberg, and Bloc Weekender.
Since 2015 he has been based in Berlin, developing synthesizers and audio effects for Ableton such as Wavetable, Spectral Resonator and Meld.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I am about to release part two of the dystopian electro EP series Apocalypse Incorporated on Bandcamp. This will feature some of the tracks heard in this here mix. I also have a new album of songs with vocals coming out this year. This will be probably the most downtempo thing I've ever done - themed around death and mortality, jolly vibes all round!

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I think my recent electro binge was triggered by Carl Finlow (Silicon Scally), his stuff always has that magical groove to it. Unfortunately, maybe because I'm not a DJ, I tend not really to follow labels so much I'm also quite out of touch when it comes to the current scene! Also being a bit old, “recent” to me now means anything in the last 10 years...

My music taste is also so wide ranging that the amount of time I spend actually listening to dance music has diminished quite a lot since the internet gave us access to literally anything. Outside of electronic mucic I'm also heavily into Matt Berry's stuff, I knew him from his comedy work but turns out he's a great songwriter also.
I just recently started learning to play bongos, and have this random fascination with classic funk stuff and latin big bands like Tito Puente, even though I would never make anything remotely like it I still find it inspiring rhythmically. The subtlety and feel that real percussionists manage is something for all electronic beatmakers to aspire to.

What inspires you now to create music?

- It can be all sorts, it could be a track I hear in a club that just makes me want to make something vaguely comparable, it could be a modular patching demo on youtube, or even a book. I just read The Creative Electronic Musician by Thomas Brett and its full of tips and tricks that all just make me want to fire up the stuff and get making things. Sometimes I'll just be out cycling or something and a beat or a phrase will pop into my head, I'll record it into my phone using my mouth and then months later will pick it up again and try to recreate it for real.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I have a Dave Smith Tempest and a Novation Summit for drum machine and synth duties, also a Eurorack system for the more crazy sound design and generative explorations. Hardware is fun and inspiring, but at the end of the day I just find I really need the precision of a DAW to get the sound I want.

Vitaly Reznakov is an electronic music artist based in Essex in the UK. A collector of Hip Hop and Electro records from a very early age, he started producing his own music in 1990 with several vinyl releases under various aliases from 1991 until the early 2000's when circumstances lead to a move away from music and into a different artistic career for several years. After rediscovering his passion for making music he has ventured back into the electro scene, so far releasing an 8 track ep on Bandcamp and two releases on Amper Clap's Urban Connections netlabel with more music coming soon.

Which artists has influenced you the most? 

- As a kid in the early 80's I remember listening to Afrika Bambaataa, Twilight 22, Newcleus etc and thinking I want to make music like that one day... when I started producing with an Atari 1040 set up in the early 90's I was listening to Model 500, How and Little, Underground Resistance, Joey Beltram.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 

- I have an ep “Polykube” to be released on Diffuse Reality later this year, and an ep I'm just finishing for another label that I can't disclose details of just yet.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- Too many artists to name, my mix should give a good indication of what I'm into... the same goes for labels, but I would say at the moment Cultivated Electronics, Mechatronica, Urban Connections are pretty solid.

What inspires you now to create music? 

- Dystopian sci-fi/horror movies and comics had a big impact on me when I was growing up and are always an inspiration for the feel of a track, but I'm not sure what inspires me on a personal level... I have ideas all the time so I guess just the ability to let other people hear what's going on inside my head is a good feeling.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- Laptop with Reason 12 and a load of VST plugins... I'm old school so I like the fact I can flip the rack and visually patch instruments and effects together. I still have some original analogue synths (Roland Jupiter 6, Sequential Circuits Pro One) they are not midi'd up, but I sample from them now and then.

Interview with Alexander Senge - aka Narcotic 303 - Owner of the label Deeptakt Records, located near Stuttgart, Germany

How did you get started as a Producer / DJ?
-I first came into contact with producing in 1996 through a good friend from my school. I was so taken with it that shortly afterwards I got myself a music program and experimented with my first samples and since then it has been an integral part of my life. I started DJing in 2004.

When and why did you decide to create your label Deeptakt Records?
-I founded Deeptakt Records in 2013. The reason I started a label was to give unknown talented artists a stage and a helping hand.

That's a great foundation and a supportive initiative to have within your label. How can a Techno Producer get in touch with you?
-You can contact us on all popular social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Soundcloud.

Deeptakt Records is focusing on Dub, Raw, Deep and Hypnotic Techno. Can you describe why this Electronic style is important for you?
-Initially, the label focused solely on Dub Techno. However, in early 2024, I decided to incorporate additional genres like Raw, Deep, and Hypnotic Techno into our catalog to introduce new faces to the scene. My personal taste in music naturally plays a role in why these genres are represented on the label.

How has your Music style changed over time?
-I have explored various genres since my beginnings. I started with Drum and Bass and Hardcore, then embraced Trance, and at that point, there was nothing else for me. I then moved on to Minimal, Hardtechno, Prog. House, and eventually settled into Dub Techno. Techno has always been present alongside me, and today, I predominantly produce Dub Techno and Techno. However, I can never say beforehand what the next track will be. I create based on my mood and inclination.

What style did you choose for this mix and can you tell us about any upcoming releases?
-For this mix, I opted for pure Techno because I'm currently feeling more connected to and having more fun with this genre. Of course, I also used the one-hour slot to showcase some upcoming and existing releases on Deeptakt, such as tracks from TK Anderson, G.A.R.O.S. and Denny Emile, as well as two tracks of mine, though there are currently no planned releases for them.

Your moniker is Narcotic 303, what’s the background story about this name?
-Back then I found that the acid sounds of the Roland TB 303 were narcotic like drugs. That's the only reason why I called myself Narcotic 303.
