Yan Striker’s Swiss label !Organism turns to Axel Karakasis for its 27th EP, ‘On The Phone’. Axel Karakasis is the most recognisable Greek name in the techno scene, his career is marked by a number of classic releases on labels like Respekt as well as his own Remain label and a series of appearances at clubs around Europe that have established him as an international DJ of much repute within the world of techno. This new EP only confirms his unique voice within that world across three tracks and one remix from Bodyscrub. 

First up is the title track, a streamlined but heady brew of smooth hi hats, icy ambiance and frictionless beats that rolls and rolls until you are totally hypnotised by its long and drawn out rhythms. The remix from Hidden and Respekt’s experienced Italian Bodyscrub is quicker and tougher, with heavier kick drums and more insistent loops of steely, glistening percussion. It’s peak time stuff that will have dancefloors in controlled frenzies from start to finish. 

Next up is ‘Cadence’, a track which burrows ever deeper into techno hypnotism with releases of tension coming through blasts of white noise, propulsion coming from the cantering kicks and all the while as Karakasis displays his great knack for pin point, precise sound design. This one is all about minimum effort but maximumeffect. 

Closing out the no nonsense EP is the fierce Going Out with its slapping drums, grumbling, hidden synth lines and hiccupping percussive ticks. The whole thing is long and smooth and really works its way under your skin in fine style akin to fellow techno greats like Speedy J, Adam Beyer or Cari Lekebusch. Fun but functional stuff on all counts from Karakasis and !Organism.

!27 : Axel Karakasis - Going Out

Renowned German DJ and producer ​Boris Brejcha has unveiled his hotly anticipated new album ​Space Diver,​ out​ 24th January​ via ​Ultra Music​.
SpaceDiveri​sanemotionally-charged,ten-trackjourney,with​Brejchamasterfully guiding the listener through an array of terrain. No fewer than three tracks from the LP have already been released as singles: there’s the hypnotic, recently released
   
‘Lieblingsmensch’​, trance-inflicted ​‘Never Look Back’ and melodic techno roller ‘Gravity’​, which features the vocals of Berlin-based singer-songwriter ​Laura Korinth​. Things are then closed out with ​‘To The Moon And Back’​, an expertly-crafted slice of what Brejcha refers to as ​‘High-Tech Minimal’​, with the album finding that sweet spot between energetic club cuts and relaxed home listening.
Having completed a North American tour and played at a slew of Ibiza parties across 2019, ​Brejcha shows no signs of taking his foot off the gas in 2020, with festival slots at ​OFFSonar​, ​Exit Festival​ and ​Docklands​ all lined up for the next few months.
Emerging onto the scene with the double EP release of ​‘Monster’ and ​‘Yellow Kitchen’ back in 2006, ​Brejcha has spent the years since developing his own style of music, coined as ​‘High-Tech Minimal’​. In 2018 he dropped a track on the ​Best Of Cloning Sound ​compilation to mark the tenth anniversary of the imprint.

Moon Boots’ acclaimed LP ‘Bimini Road’ saw the Brooklyn-based artist on top form. A showcase of his soulful house flair, the album won praise from Mixmag and Billboard, and was named in KCRW’s ‘Top 10 Albums of 2019’. The energetic ‘Juanita’ featuring soaring vocals from Kaleena Zanders now gets the remix treatment from two esteemed underground producers.  

A prolific figure in the techno world, Mark Broom has worked with pioneering labels like Warp, R&S, Soma and Mo’ Wax since appearing on the scene in the early 90’s. Known for his driving, swinging sound, he now adds Moon Boots to an impressive list of remixes that includes techno royalty such as Floorplan, Chris Liebing and Cajmere.

Italian-born, Madrid-based producer Bawrut has quickly become one of Europe’s hottest producers, picking up support from Sven Vath, Dixon, Kolsch, Hunee, Midland, Jackmaster, Erol Alkan and the late great Andrew Weatherall with his releases on Ransom Note and DJ Tennis’ Life & Death imprint. His hypnotic remix layers syncopated cowbells with acid motifs, marking an impressive first appearance on Anjunadeep.
