6 months ago I made a mix of my essential selections from the (roughly) 2007-2009 era of BLOG HAUS, INDIE DANCE & DISTORTED ELECTRO. As soon as I finished it I wanted to make a Pt.2. Well here it is. I almost feel like reactivating my myspace profile just to post it.

01 Green Knight (WAV without rain sounds)

Finally got around wrapping up this track. Big up to AnimalTracks for helping compose this thing with me. Together we got from a blank Live set to the majority of the tracking done in just a day and a half, a personal best for the both of us. Shouts to Ghosttails and Melodic G for the input on the final touches.
I'd love to eventually put lyrics/vocals over this. Maybe some day when inspiration strikes. I'd really like the lyrics to play on the shift from relative minor to relative major after the buildup.
This song was kind of a going-away party for my Gaia and MoPho since they were going on eBay for fund raising for Christmas gifts and Ableton Push. For that reason, they are featured very prominently.
I used SoundPrism Pro to make some really insane 12 part harmonious arpeggios across tons of octaves. That MIDI data drove the huge swelling trance synths from the 64 voice Gaia. I also ran it through the monophonic MoPho, to get that really octave-scattered analog chirp part.
The build lead synth was just a simple riff on the MoPho with that amazing Curtis chip filter being opened up with increasing resonance and ADSR changes to the VCA. Def a 2 person job, couldn't have tracked that part without AnimalTracks or pulling my hair out with MIDI CC hopping.
Dunno what else to say, lots of love to Ableton and the Live 9 beta, really got to play with the new 48 dB filters on the EQ, plus the new compressors and gate. Lots of sidechain compressor and gate. Subtle mixing sidechain compressors. Obvious ducking sidechain compressors tied to kick. Sidechain gates tied to closed hi hat. Lots of tricks I've been using seperately, all finally on one song. and send and returns and racks on racks on racks. Love the new automation curves. Anyway this is going on too long. I feel like I finally [almost] finished a song to the best of my ability.

"A rap beat that sampled Roger & Zapp - Living For the City ended up a house track that runs from dark to light with relative minor to major transitions. Used every single piece of gear I had while making this, which always is nice to reassure myself that I'm not just a total gear slut with writer's block [which I really am].

This is totally unfinished in every way. We spent 15 hours composing in session view and only 15 minutes putting the arrangement together. No mixing, panning or anything really done yet.

Armsdale was touched by the Holy Unit; the rest is history. Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes that everybody liked. They left that to Armsdale.

After a religious experience at a Daft Punk show in 2007, a young engineering student decided to put down his guitar for a while and pick up Ableton Live with the goal of: "Bridging the gap between where my instrument technique ends and the music in my head keeps going." Sadly, by 2007 it was too late for him to quit mechanical engineering in the pursuit of a formal education in music production. Regardless, Armsdale continued to balance a love of music and fast things. This duality of purpose led to a career in the automotive industry and a patent for a leaning vehicle suspension, but with many a late night spent toiling over a song or sweating on stage at a basement DIY venue. Da Vinci believed that Art and Science were two means to the same end. In that same vein, Armsdale found that his education allowed for an engineer's comprehension of sound design, production techniques, and electronic music technology.
