Schluss Mit Zirkus. Jetz' Is ClownTempo!

Last week, I was back at Birgit Club in Berlin, for the Burn Night! 

Our Musotopia floor was all set for a full night of alternative/non standard Berlin music, but one day before the event, we got a cancellation from one UK Bass act. 
We decided that I will take the slot, but playing on this floor, I still wanted to try to propose something a bit different and unusual. 
I decided to play a set with a huge bpm range, going constantly up from 80 to 140bpm in 1.5 hours, but still keeping a consistency in terms of sound. 
In my research of having a sound that is more unique and special, this set has been a really fun experiment. 
I was also happily surprised to see that the crowd wasn't completely lost with the bpm rising so fast, and people were on fire.

When exchanging about music, I often hear the belief that there is a strong correlation between the bpm and the energy level. Personally, I really don't think so.. And I think this set is showing it well: no matter the BPM, the energy remains kind of the same -> Deep and dark, with a sliver of freakiness and some psychedelic vibes. 


I hope you will enjoy that slightly unusual set and can feel the fabulous energy from that night with this recording.

This podcast was inspired by the myth of Orpheus and by Olivier Ledroit’s graphic novel « Sha ».
And is dedicated to every woman who has been hurt, preyed on or spoiled by the folly of mankind.

biography:

Arnau Yuna is the DJ-producer project of Catalan sound artist Arnau Montserrat.  Launched in 2014, this project stems from his love and curiosity of sharing music, experimentation, and community. Drawn to the ethos of self-organized events, he settled in Berlin, becoming resident in collectives and venues such as Love Foundation and Pachamama. 

Arnau's versatility and innovation are reflected in his sets, moving fluidly between groovy house, breaks, and beyond for dance floors, as well as forward-thinking explorations in downtempo, dub, and ambient for listening sessions. Beyond DJing, he explores sound art through compositions for theater and installations, driven by a constant interest of experimentation and research.
