Black Light Smoke’s (@black-light-smoke) US-based imprint Death Decay Magic invites The Hacker (@the-hacker), Cardopusher (@cardopusher), Man 2.0 (@man2point0) and Adrian Marth (@adrian_marth) to remix tracks from the first three releases on the imprint. After seven years of brand building as a podcast mix series, Death Decay Magic was launched as a record label in March 2020 by Jordan Lieb aka Black Light Smoke. With a DIY ethos, Death Decay Magic explores the darker, eclectic realms of electronic music, bridging techno with EBM, minimal synth and post-punk.  Death Decay Magic Remixes Vol. 1 is a compilation remix EP, drawing on the first three Death Decay Magic releases; Black Light Smoke ‘Line and Shadows’, Daniel Holt ‘Traveler’, and Man 2.0 & Black Light Smoke ‘Holy Hammer’. Death Decay Magic invites remixes from The Hacker, Cardopusher, Adrian Marth, Man 2.0, and Black Light Smoke on a release that illustrates the labels blueprint perfectly: raw, edgy synth music with ghostly vocals; one foot in techno, the other stepping out into the unknown.  Zone Music boss The Hacker gets things underway with a crunchy remix of Black Light Smoke ‘Lines’ featuring crystalline leads, zapping synths and whirring stabs. Up next, Man 2.0 and Black Light Smoke’s ‘Bodywork’ gets a remix from Classicworks founder Cardopusher as he takes the remix into mystifying territories with revolving modulations bouncing elegantly off the chugging rhythm. Night Noise artist Man 2.0 follows by laying down an industrial-tinged electro remix of ‘Traveler’ with otherworldly atmospheres, gauzy textures and dynamic elements.  Italo Moderni label boss Adrian Marth follows with an interpretation of ‘Bank For God’ as the spiralling EBM sonics flow vigorously and the drilling rhythms get to work underneath. DDM honcho Black Light Smoke then finishes things off with a version of his track, ‘Your Own Hands,’ which fuses rubbery bass grooves, playful melodies and vibrant 909s.

Nein Records boss Tronik Youth returns to Roam Recordings with an EP full of his characteristic and unique take on ebm. The original title track Kutt-Outs is a quirky and upbeat jam with a bit of mind melting thrown in through the playful synth work and vocal kutt-outs. Number Wang drives in a hypnotic direction while keeping with the vocal work theme. 

The EP is backed by two excellent remixes. First up is L.A. duo Warehouse Preservation Society who take Kutt-Outs into a 90s electro breakbeat direction. Cardopusher is up next with a darker driving lights-out version of Number Wang.

The next record from the bright young NDV stable comes from a couple of outrageously talented folk by the name of Chris Woodward (Buzzinfly) and Antanas Antanelis. This is the first record from these guys and they're no novices. This crafted and heavy hitting slice of house is a perfect fit for the NDV mould. The Magnificent Afrikaan Donce EP is full of chunky house tones, shades of MPC, hip hop and sample based house along with a tougher edge.

These guys have a lot of experience releasing music under alternative monikers for labels like Drumpoet Community, Buzzin Fly and others, but it's NDV who get the courtesy of presenting their first offering as the duo Chris & Antanas.

To top it off, this EP has 2 remixes which don't mess about. Both of these blew us away, it is safe to say this whole record came together easily. First up we have the man, the legend........ MR G!! Fresh off the back of a new album and with plenty of fuel still in the tank, Mr G picks up the pace and applies his trademark rolling housey/techno groove to some thick and moody pads. He brings out a pure evolving feeling with this super clean re-cut.

The icing on this already delightful cake comes from Manchester's man of the moment - Oli Furness. A good friend and the fearless leader of Music Is love and MIL. He is on red hot form at the moment and flips the B side with some absolutely funkadelic swagger and jazz-tastic remoulding of the original....we're marking this remix as his finest work yet.

Arnaud Rebotini is a singer, songwriter, producer and remixer, he has become one of the most emblematic figures in electronic music today, adept at straddling genres, both avant-garde and timeless, and bringing them together. 
For example, his Zend Avesta project (Organique, Universal 2000) married electronic music with a chamber orchestra. 
With his analogue synthesisers, he became a central figure on the scene of new international techno, marking renewed enthusiasm for the use of electronic instruments rather than just computers. His live shows have always been unanimously celebrated (Music Components, Citizen 2008, Someone Give Me Religion, K7 - 2010) and his remixes for pour Depeche Mode, David Guetta, Rammstein, The Rapture, Bloc Party, Acid Washed and Tristesse Contemporaine are as indicative of his sets at the biggest clubs and festivals (playing live or mixing) as his collaboration with the highbrow Groupe de Recherches Musicales, especially with Christian Zanési for their Frontières project.
