Some might remember The Planty Herbs from his earlier 7” outing on RNT, and now the dynamic Dutchman brings his dusty vibes to a 4-track EP of crafty edit selections. “Famyly” kicks of the pack with a bouncy funk groove, followed by “Errybodydisco,” a low-slung house party affair. On the flip we have the flute solo and sample-heavy Soundstream-esque stomper “Today,” while “What’s Inside” takes us back to the soul side with a boom-bappity cover of a 70s R&B classic.

The record kicks off with the meteoric energy of Star Beaming, a rolling interstellar disco stomper, then lays back with the low-slung Fred's Groove and jazzy balearic groove of Laid Back, finishing off with the bouncey early-80s boogie feel of Forgot. Aroop Roy is a producer, musician and label head, who joins the dots between electronic music and borderless organic sounds. From house, garage and techno to jazz, disco and tropical rhythms, he has enjoyed universal acclaim as a producer and DJ.

Aroop's eclectic productions have become a mainstay for DJs  across scenes and generations, with Gilles Peterson calling him 'a brilliant producer, who never fails'. In recent years, he has been high in demand as a remixer, working for both underground and major labels. 

Like his productions, his sets are full of personality and style and have earned him a reputation as a uniquely gifted DJ. In 2022, his warmup for Mr Scruff at We Out Here Festival impressed the legendary UK selector so much, that he invited him to stay on the decks to close the festival back-to-back, describing Aroop as a 'ridiculously skilled selector, musically able to move in any direction with ease'.

In 2023, Aroop is enjoying huge momentum, causing wild scenes with his sets at Fabric, Printworks, Defected Croatia, Hi Ibiza and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide and We Out Here festivals. 


An eclectic digger and tastemaker, he has recorded guest mixes for the likes of Gilles Peterson, Freerange Records,  CO-OP,  Jazz FM and BBC 6 Music's Craig Charles Funk & Soul show.


Aroop's label Vive La Musique has focussed on quality over quantity, with reissues and reworks of rare eclectic sounds from around the world from Caribbean zouk and Congolese Rumba to French jazz-fusion and South soul. All releases have been celebrated by major tastemakers across the scene with the latest offering "In the Fast Lane" receiving rave reviews for uncovering the historical connections between french virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and the Detroit techno movement.
