"The Crowells were the first people I met who never said something was red. They'd say a thing was puce or mauve or magenta or vermillion and I wouldn't know if that was more like red or green. They called me color deaf." 
This lovely little story is published in The Next Whole Earth Catalog, 1980, p303, The Rising Sun, Neighborhood Newsletter. And this story inspired this tune.

"That Far Forgotten Shore"* by classical composer Jeremias Langsämmer is a breathtaking orchestral journey, blending the grandeur of Western classical tradition with the evocative melodies of the Middle East. This sweeping soundtrack piece unfolds like a memory carried by the wind, its layered strings rising and falling like waves on an ancient shore.  

Deep strings introduce the theme, their rich, resonant tones imbued with longing, before swelling into a rich tapestry of sound—warm cellos, shimmering violas, and soaring violins weaving together in undulating phrases. Beneath them, deep, resonant percussion and plucked Middle Eastern instruments, such as the oud and qanun, add texture and depth, evoking sunlit dunes and distant, forgotten lands.  

The composition moves through shifting tides of emotion, from hushed, introspective passages to bold, cinematic crescendos. A hypnotic, rhythmic motif pulses beneath the orchestration, subtly mirroring the ebb and flow of the sea. The harmonies drift between Western tonality and modal inflections, creating a haunting, timeless atmosphere—both familiar and exotic, distant yet deeply human.  

"That Far Forgotten Shore" is a soundtrack for lost places, for whispered histories and unseen horizons—a piece that lingers in the soul long after the final note fades.

Sadness Within Updated

I created this track by improvising on a Gibson SG over three variations of a drum pattern. I produced the drums using custom sounds I made on the AKAI MPC Live and the Teenage Engineering PO-32. I also played the bass part on a Sire J7—my marvelous fretless bass.

I love to sing with my guitar. Love to play my guitar and sing.
I practice Zen too, so sometimes I combine traditional Zen Buddhist chants with guitar instrumentals that I have composed; other times, I just sing a folk or popular song that resonates with me.
June 24 2024 marked the release of ShoSaiMyo Vol.1, first released on Bandcamp. It features Five of the Zen and Sutras playlist songs that Brad Stock produced and engineered at Painted Sky Studios.
