The Berliner Philharmonie is acclaimed for both its acoustics and its architecture. Located just south of the Tiergarten (Berlin's large central park), the venue's original design called for two separate halls in the 1960s (a large, main hall and a small one). Unfortunately, financial constraints postponed the realization of the smaller hall until the 1980s, right before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today the Berliner Philharmoniker uses the space to do public rehearsals and smaller performances.
