It’s Podcast time and we dive right back in to our guest invites and we’re very pleased to welcome a rising talent from the London underground scene, who has been making quite the name for herself in the last year - Redfreya! 🤩

An emerging artist in the London Deep House / Deep Tech scene, Redfreya is drawn to melodic, percussive and hypnotic tracks, weaving deep groove lines with emotive vocals, and always seeking to curate an emotional arc in her sets. 

She holds a monthly residency on Bloop London Radio (last Tuesday of the month at 7pm), and has played across London including Brixton Courtyard, Dalston Superstore and The Cause, to name a few. Although she regards herself as a relative newcomer to the scene, she has been working hard on curating guestmixes as well as her monthly radioshows, and has a lot of projects lined up for 2021.  

A lifelong music lover, she started her musical career with a solid grounding in classical training as a flautist, singer and pianist, and was initially inspired by  minimalist composers Philip Glass, Nils Frahm, Yann Tiersen and The Cinematic Orchestra. When she discovered electronic music this progressed to a broadspectrum love of all melodic, deep and progressive genres (and a hint of techno/minimal too) - "I don't discriminate by genre but to me, music has to be both emotional and beautiful".

A bit about the mix from Freya:

"This is an ethereal, emotional journey through the more ambient side of melodic/progressive house and techno - I decided to build the entire mix around the mood the 2nd track, one of my all time faves - Turn Around by Sailor & I (Âme remix) - not much more needs to be said. I hope you can lose yourself a little for an hour, and join me for the trip."

It’s about time we delivered another edition in the Podcast series. And to kick of the next run we firstly say a warm welcome to London, as this Melbourne based artist has made the switch to the big smoke and we’re sure to make just as big an impact has she has done down under!

With over a decade of involvement in the music scene as a DJ, Carina Lawrence has made her mark at many late-night institutions both in Melbourne and internationally. It is in these darkly lit club-rooms, belting out the best of beats, that she shines brightest. Her signature sound is an infusion of genres. Her diverse tastes traverse effortlessly through various elements of techno, house and progressive. Revellers can expect a symphony of melodic moments, soulful tribal grooves and eclectic
 influences emanating from the system while she plays. One look at her in the booth reveals the concentration and attention to detail that she has become famous for. No ego, just good tunes, on-point mixing and a mood and energy in the room second to none. Before a move to London, Carina had firmly cemented her place in the Melbourne clubbing scene, holding residencies at the likes of Onesixone and Pawn & Co, and making regular guest appearances at Revolver, Circus and more. On the event circuit, Carina performed for Thick As Thieves, whilst also earning support duties for the Defected Australasia Tour and playing alongside top international touring artists including WAFF, Lovebirds and Rebuke. 2021 brings new and exciting musical opportunities with a number of her own original releases on the horizon via her new 'Otherhalf' project.

Lisbon-born artist who has dedicated his life to electronic music. Igor enjoyed spending most of his early 20s skateboarding, searching for records and DJing at parties with friends. In 2005, he set off for England and has remained in the UK ever since. In 2008, he was recognised for his technical abilities and selection prowess, winning the Galaxy Radio West Midlands Street Life Championship and becoming the finalist of 2010 West Midlands Corona Movida Competition. Following this, he won the MOS and Mixmag DJ competitions, signed a contract with Ministry of Sound London in 2011, and was invited to play at the esteemed Mixmag Future Heroes Tent at Creamfields Festival in Liverpool. 
 
During his residency at Ministry of Sound, he played alongside and supported many big names including Funk D’void, Ian Pullen, Alex Neri, Roger Sanchez, Bob Sinclair and more. He toured all over the world for four years, representing the brand as Resident/Guest Artist at the likes of Colombia, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Philippines, Estonia, Portugal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Chile, France, Algeria, Ukraine, Uruguay, Argentina and more. His outstanding sets showcased his formidable technical skills and versatility in playing a wide range of electronic music, adapting his sets seamlessly to diverse crowds. 
 
All of the above, coupled with his captivating personality created the Igor Carmo that is appreciated by music lovers the world over. After all these years of playing electronic music for warm up sets and closing parties, as well as featuring as the main guest, Igor has decided to take some time to work on a sound that really represents him as an artist: Melodic, Deep, Organic, Progressive House.

ARRVL 022 - Jake Hobbs

Jake Hobbs has been around in the music scene since the early 90's. He started djing with vinyl on 1210's and his love of drum and bass was a reflection of the Bristol rave era at that time. Spin the turntables forward three decades and Jake's heart has firmly found its place in the deep house scene. His uploads onto his Soundcloud page over the last 12 months have gained him a loyal fan base tuning into his weekly Deep Mondays live show and his Ewoh series. He also does a weekly live show on Friday evenings at 9pm for Beach Radio and more recently supported Jody Wisternoff at Night Tales in London for two shows in one day delivering both opening and closing sets. Keep an eye out for Jake as he continues to gain momentum and recognition as a deep house dj with soul.

A little bit about the mix from the man himself:

It is always a privilege to be asked to do a new guest mix! I met DJ Konnr (Connor) from ARRVL at Night Tales the other week who asked if I’d like to put one together. Of course I jumped at the chance! I wanted to create a listening experience in a little over an hour that takes the listener on a voyage. Starting with a lovely chilled promo from Pablo Gargano where you can picture yourself outside in the fresh air walking by cliff tops easing yourself gently into Brilliant Eyes by Ryterband remixed by my buddy Jody W. The mix then takes sharp progressive turn and we crank it up for a few tracks with a few more promos coming out from Phronesis Records, Joyride Records, E=MC2 and the Melodic Beats stables. Simon Doty is a wonderful Canadian producer who puts so much feeling into his work with the long held notes and characteristic chord changes; which is where we head to next in order to line up three stunning vocal tracks which are doing the rounds at the moment. We then sail into Every Time by Ben Pierre as the mix kicks it back up a notch ready for the grisly dark and theatrical Anomalous. One of my favourite tunes at the moment. I just love filthy bass lines. Marsh is on fire at the moment and his Lost in You EP is a masterpiece. Guipe inspired from Explorations provides a lovely key change for the penultimate track before my tune of 2019 closes the set.

Priya is a regular contributor writer and music critic for music magazines - Decoded (UK), Underground Tel Aviv, Frisky Radio; She also hosts a monthly shows on Frisky Radio titled – Provocateur and a second residency with Pioneer DJ Radio called – Dreamscape respectively.

A former night club programmer, blogger she has added another dimension to her artistry as a DJ, covering the spectrum of Deep Tech, Progressive House and Melodic Techno at some of the most prolific hot spots and electronic dance music nights that celebrate the underground.

Featured in the Spartaque India tour and warming up for Blond:ish, she's also regularly billed to warm up for international artists, her recent outings include warming up and closing for the legendary Bedrock DJ/Producer John Digweed in Mumbai, Agents Of Time, Roger Martinez, Dmitry Molosh, Grouch, Stelios Vassiloudis, JOBE, Martin Roth, ADE: Mumbai Sessions, Guy J/ Guy Mantzur and warmed up for Lost & Found/ Sudbeat wonder Khen on his album tour and recently set stage for Hernan Cattaneo in Mumbai and Goa as part of his Balance Album Tour of India in 2017 followed up by the maestro’s tour recently in 2018. Festival appearances include: Krank, CTRL ALT DANCE, Prata, Spinland, It’s Just Sound, A Day of sLick, High Tide, Horizons.

Priya has a considerable amount of original productions and remix projects under her stride with her long time collaborator Aman Anand, such as  “Stargaze” which met with rave reviews on its release under Modern Agenda and a remix for Christ Malvin & Ivan Sandhas - Same Day from their - “North & South” EP is out on Beatport on the same imprint. Since then she has released - Jorgio Kioris titled – “Osaka” & “Shine On” remix with label owner Amber Long, both of which are on Modern Agenda, her home ground and the second for Brett Rubin & Beauxtech! called – “Looking Glass”, on Stripped Digital with an original EP titled – “Night Flight To Venus” out on Manmademusic Recordings. Add Audioglider - Caging Of The Sun Remix out on Emotional Content Recordings, which turned out to be one of the most successful works, staying at the Beatport top 100 Progressive House charts for more than 3 months. Plus released music on Massive Harmony, Stripped Digital, Modern Architect and slated to release originals and remixes on imprints such as Mistique Music and Modern Agenda in 2020.

“I am a Progressive House lover though have gone slightly toward Tech Prog in the track selection, I do always try to sound underground or late night in vibe, if not bpm. Some of the tracks featured are my absolute favs and have been my secret weapons in the past. So some brand new tunes, mixed up with perhaps a little older music which went well in the flow. I always look to share my music with a new audience and what better platform than your esteemed podcast series where it looks like the party never stops. Thanks for having me.”
