***ARRVL 031 - Steve Marx***

DJs come in all shapes and sizes, some have personalities to match their physique; are the centre of attention, the life and soul of the party. Others are more reserved and let the music do the talking for them. Steve Marx is a firebrand. Introverted and self-deprecative in public but loud and exciting behind the decks. 

For over 20 years his passionate spirit and encyclopedic knowledge of the music has made him an international sensation in two vastly different scenes - London and Sydney.

Since the late 80s, Steve has been a raver. Starting out in front of the booth he quickly became seduced to step up to the ones and twos and create his own musical soundscapes.

Moving to London in the 90s, he was surrounded by the vibrant music scene at a time of momentous change. Globally recognised brands such as Renaissance and Ministry of Sound were his introduction where he quickly became a trusted guest DJ, progressing to slots all over Europe playing alongside the likes of Sasha, Nick Warren and more.

His own nights - Synchronize - with friends, Ben and Francis were his launch pad upon which everything was built and it was his passion for being a resident that cemented his place in a busy scene full of superstars. Often preferring the closing sets, Steve would work the room to perfection. Then home beckoned and he returned to Australia, triumphant.

Steve took some time away for himself for a few years, but the desire to DJ was always there in the back of his mind. In 2016, he made his comeback teaming up with fellow London scenester returned, Damien Gelle who now ran T-1000 Events, supporting John Digweed.

The following year, requests from Hernan Cattaneo (who now insists Steve always supports him when he comes to Sydney) and an impromptu back to back with Dutch maestro Eelke Kleijn ensured his return to form was nothing short of epic.

Firmly re-established in the Sydney scene with a long running dance music show on Bondi Beach radio and regular appearances for Return to Rio, Boots and Catz and more, it’s safe to say the road ahead for Steve Marx is wide open with green lights as far as his eyes can see!
