The three founding members of Ars Subtilior grew up together in a small town in Northwest Montana.

Mario began taking guitar lessons at the age of 10 because he aspired to be like Kurt Cobain. Several years later, his musical interest shifted more along the lines of funk/rock such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now some of the guitarist that influence Mario the most include John Frusciante, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and Jimi Hendrix.

Natalee began taking drum lessons at the age of 9, where she was trained by Jack Waller in jazz and funk. Her musical interests were wide; from classical music to David Garibaldi's Tower of Power urban soul music.
