It is composed and performed by JVN and YUNG, post-production process is done at  @studioa.tehran , and it is available through major online music distribution platforms like #Spotify , #Soundcloud, #Deezer and #iTunes .

The pastoral view, the view into forests, mountains, and oceans, has kept alive a great, wonderful element of non mechanical response which one day can and will enter into concrete leisure; however, the access to it is, as a precapitalist one in a capitalist age, still largely archaic-romantic [...] a utopian kind of restful land.

Mass society strives for growth. Growth in populations, growth in cities, growth in economies. The individual imbibes this intoxicating brew, and so dutifully strives for growth also – always looking ahead, always seeking more. Yet, modern society has been confronted with the confounding truth: Our world has little yield to further accommodate our voracity. Rainforests are declining, temperatures are rising, species are dying. This realisation of endless growth’s folly, and of the need to embrace what we have now finds expression in an arresting new album from Stockholm-based Spanish pianist Hara Alonso. 

A study in semantics as well as philosophy, Notions of Hope invites a meditative listen. Each of its deft, stark piano tracks explores a different, nuanced interpretation of the concept of hope, delving beneath our overt, sanguine associations with the word. Inspired by springtime walks in the forest and nighttime readings on secular faith from the likes of Bloch, Kierkegaard and Hägglund, the set documents – the passing of the seasons from darkest winter to delicate spring – the time of new beginnings. Green shoots and lingering sun. It also arrives soon after the start of a new year, when we author resolutions for how to improve our lot. Nature’s cycle and humanity’s ritual, both lulling us into complacency. Through her fragile piano keys, Alonso wordlessly urges listeners to consider the fragility of our world, and switch from a mode of hope to one of care. Care for surroundings, care for your actions, care for your world – in all its finite glory. 

In Notion 5, Alonso rises ever further up her piano, until it has no more keys to offer. The piece ends – as we all do – and we enjoyed what was captured before the end. 


In a nontheistic state of mind, abandoning hope is an affirmation, the beginning of the beginning.

بی‌سلسله می‌لختیدم از لابلای اشباح ماهیچه‌ها
وقتی که بر باد رفته بودند از اتوبان
و ماه بنا به ارتعاشاتِ بازار بورس/ گر گرفته بود/ می‌نگریست
از فراز پاسداران/
دودل بود/ به ضخامت کیسه‌های زباله می‌اندیشید
و به چاه‌هایی که یوسفِ خود را به سطل‌ها حقنه می‌کردند

چاه‌به‌چاه می‌گریست ماه

وقتی که از جوی‌های کاغذینِ درکه،
جرعه‌جرعه خون نوشیده بود.

آب از آب هم نمی‌گذرد تجریش
خون از آب می‌گذرد/ تشویش...

بچه‌هاتان را دفع کنید
یکسره یوسف‌هاتان را دفن کنید/
تا هنوز می‌خندند            همچنان که زنی سالیان‌زده پُردرد

بگذار بر سالیان تو یک شب حلول کنم.
«یوسف را حد نزنید لطفاً/
برادران در آن نماز چه خواندند؟/ که تو از جوی‌هایی که لغزیده‌ام پایین، پرهیز می‌کنی
تو کمی از خواب‌های خودت تعریف کن/ هم‌مرگِ مَنی
هم‌صحبتِ بی‌امل‌بالیدن در راستای جوب تنگِ منی
به جایی برنمی‌خورد تابلوی حرکت از بین خطوط
وقتی که جیب‌های تو از خالی است خون‌آلود/
و از خالی ول شده است بر قلعه‌ی ارتشبد پیر، بهمن/ و از خالی، سرنگی ملتهب است
شاید هم بعداً
شاید هم شاید هم که برادری مرا از این جمله با خود بُرد
به زوایای اُرُسی‌های دوبُعدی
با فونتِ برجسته‌ی چاپی...
چنان که این جمله‌ها از سُرب/ بر بصل‌النخاع، لحیم‌ترند و گاهی، سپیده‌دمان، تهرانِ قدیم را به‌جامی‌آورند که در تهران جدید به ورزش آمده است
می‌رود
می‌دود
برای زنده‌ماندنش می‌دود و فراموش می‌کند

از جنون جنایتی محتملم.
چنان که آن تهران‌ها یکریز می‌دوند،
امید دارم که حباب‌های مثلِ من، بترکند.
امید دارم از توی آن لپ‌های چاک‌خورده‌ات رگبار عاصفات بدمد
گاهی از یقین بپاشی از شهری که توی روده‌هات داری،
بدمد باد بر باد از بادهای شدیداً دِمُدِه -بیگانه با اسپلیت‌های اَوّاه، آه!:
شبحی مجرم و شبی آرام و سیاه

شبی چون چاه و شبحی زنانه و مبهم و هنوز هم یوسف
که خیس شده است/

Arshia Samsaminia (*1989 Tehran, Iran) 
He studied contemporary composition at Sibelius Academy of Music in Finland, University of Gothenburg (Academy of Music and Drama) in Sweden, UDK University of Arts in Berlin, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, and Tbilisi State Music Conservatory under the supervision of Helena Tulve, Malin Bång, Manolis Vlitakis, Marc Sabat, Ole Lutzüow Holm and etc. He is a current Ph.D. candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece under the supervision of Prof. Dimitri Papageorgiou and Prof. Caspar Johannes Walter (University of Sciences and Arts in Basel) in Composition.
He is one of the finalists of the Jonathan Harvey Scholarship 2020 at Huddersfield University.
Samsaminia has had the collaborations with the well-known Ensembles such as the  Klangforum Wien Ensemble, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Garage, Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, Trio Saeitenwind, Ljubljana Contemporary Chamber Orchestra, KLART Ensemble, EMTA Tallinn Sinfonietta, HSM Symphonic and Opera Orchestra Gothenburg, Hanatsu Miroir Strasbourg, Łódź Academy Symphonic Orchestra,  GEPO Unesco orchestra in Paris, Sepia Ensemble Poland, Tbilisi Contemporary Ensemble, Omnibus contemporary Ensemble and etc. 
His compositions have been selected and performed in numerous festivals such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 2020, Gaudeamus 2018 Netherlands, Sound and Images New York (Eastman Audio Research Project Concert), Ticino Musica 2019 Switzerland, OutHear 2019 Greece, Poznań Contemporary Music Festival Poland, Mixtur Barcelona, UNM Nordisk Iceland, Sound of Stockholm, Tehran contemporary music festival, Eufonija Festival in Serbia, Lerici Music Festival “Suoni Dal Golfo” Italy, and Siren Festival Gothenburg, Sweden and etc.
