Dark Entries is proud to release the latest offering from Bézier, a 3-track EP titled ‘Primes’. Bézier is the moniker of San Francisco based musician Robert Yang, who is also part of the Honey Soundsystem crew.  A multi-instrumentalist, Robert planted his roots in San Francisco in 2005.  Over the years in SF he has built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances.

‘Primes’ represents the theme of primordial origins and creation with three tracks that explore disparate, sonic environments in each song. The title track flows and ebbs like currents in an oil slick. Out of something messy (like primordial ooze) arises organized chaos. “Stranger” is a moody dark electro/wave track for a sweaty night cruising on the west coast of Holland. Set against an underwater sound canvas  the song features seductive guest vocals and lyrics by Nicole Ginelli. Doc Sleep of Jacktone Records provides additional production duties. The final track, “Imperial Tranz Am”, is an airy, ethereal slow burner clocking in at over 13 minutes. It originally appeared as the soundtrack to an experimental queer fantasy film of the same name by SF film maker Aron Kantor.

All songs have been mixed by Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated) at Room 5, San Francisco and EQed for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket featuring a Quadtone pastel earthtone of pixelated celluar ooze designed by Eloise Leigh. Each EP includes a postcard with an image still from the 'Imperial Tranz-Am’ movie.  “Do I hear what I see, is it real or just a feeling, a vibration of N-R-G.”

Flesh World is a dream punk group formed in the summer of 2012 in San Francisco. The quartet includes Scott Moore (Guitar, Synths) Jess Scott (Vocals, Guitar) Andrew Luttrell (Bass, Backing Vocals) Sam Lefebvre (Drums). Jess and Scott met while loitering around the Panhandle district​, listening to records, gossiping, and playing live shows around town with their bands (Scott plays in hardcore group Limp Wrist and Jess played in the indie pop band Brilliant Colors). The pair immediately bonded over a shared love of The Velvets and The Mary Chain. They began writing songs in Scott’s lofted bedroom in the ​City and took their name from a XXX magazine​. ​The fully formed band released their first self-titled 6-song EP in December 2013 for London punk imprint La Vida Es Un Mus Discos. Two 7” singles were followed by their debut album ‘The Wild Animals In My Life’ released in 2015 on Iron Lung Records.

‘Into The Shroud’ is Flesh World’s fifth release and sophomore album, and their first for Dark Entries Records. Each of these songs speak to a chaotic or sometimes eclectic period of influence of different books, ideas, drawings, saints, stories, and aims gathered in the two year writing process since the previous album. Themes of this record include writer, advice columnist, and Dreamland actress Cookie Mueller, the youth's effect on the general political psychosis of nostalgia​, icon ​Billy Fury, and the writings and drawings of Jean Cocteau as a hovering guide for living with less rules. The record is a topological map showing the cities of the Bay Area and Los Angeles in rapid change, looking to the books, records, and artists paid study to in order to create continuity in the constant flux of the city, the punk show, the gay world, and the rest of the environments Flesh World insulate themselves in for survival.

The group’s dynamic has greatly ​solidified on this album ​with​ a brilliant new rhythm section​. Flesh World find it easy to be influenced by a range of musicians from the guitar flourishes of Alan Rankine of the Associates​​, the swinging notes Johnny Marr of the Smiths, to the romantically desperate vibe of Roland S​.​ Howard and Nikki Sudden, to the razor thin vocals of Jenny Ross from Section 25, the androgynous vocals of Roy Orbison, to the structured synths of ​OMD. Imagine bodied guitar hooks blending into desaturated pop vocals, injections of synthesizer melodies and anxious drum builds, peaking into a pure punk-driven dream.

‘Into the Shroud’ was recorded with ​J​ack Shirley at The Atomic Garden in East Palo Alto, California​. There always seem to be incidental forces at work in gathering characters for a Flesh World record: during the previous LP, Scott had just finished reading The Secret Historian which profiles gay lifestyle photographer and pornographer J. Brian, and when the group found the LP cover photo at a garage sale they realized it was also​ taken by J.​ Brian. This time around Cookie Mueller seems to be watching over the process; Scott recently ​saw two art shows in one day in New York; one that was imagined merchandise that would have been produced if John Waters films were marketed to children and the other about AIDS, the common thread was Cookie, whom Jess wrote about in “This Great Cheap Face” on the current record. ​Each copy includes a double sided fold-out poster with lyrics, a collage of video stills of the band, and photos pulled from queer literature and arts.

Dark Entries is honored to finally present the first ever official vinyl reissue of Space Museum by Solid Space. Solid Space was the British duo of Dan Goldstein (keyboards, vocals) and Matthew 'Maf' Vosburgh (guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals) formed in 1980. Dan and Matthew met at the age of 11 while attending school in north London. In late 1978 at at the age of 14, they formed Exhibit 'A' with Paul “Platypus” and Andrew “Lunchbox” Bynghall. They recorded two EPs in 1979 and 1980, self-released on Irrelevant Wombat Records and appeared on 'The Thing From The Crypt' compilation. After the dissolution of the group, Mathew started taking his guitar over to Dan’s house where he’d play his Casio MT-30 and they would record songs. Eventually a second hand drum machine and Wasp synthesizer were acquired from classified ads in Melody Maker and the Solid Space sound was born. By this time they were just turning 18 and finally found the freedom to make the music they’d had in their heads. 

Over the course of the next two years the band assembled eleven bedroom recordings that would become one of the most cherished DIY obscurities of its kind. Their debut album ‘Space Museum’ was released in 1982 on cassette by In Phaze Records. All of the songs were mixed by label boss Pat Bermingham on 8-track tape at The Shed, in Ilford, which was literally a garden shed. The band's music and lyrics were heavily indebted to science fiction, in particular the 1960s television series Doctor Who. ‘Space Museum’ is an unveiling of atmospheric, minimalist post punk supported by bright melodies. The music combines drum machines and synths with acoustic guitar and toy drums whilst also experimenting with samples between tracks. Lyrics deal with space travel and a general sense of dejection. Representing a bubbling spirit within the underground, they foreshadowed an entire world of independent music which would emerge across the 80’s and well into the 90’s. For this reissue we’ve included two bonus tracks from the band’s archive, “Platform 6” originally released on the B-side of the second single by Exhibit ‘A’,  this song features only Dan and Matthew and is the first Solid Space track ever recorded. “Tutti Lo Sanno” is a cover of In Phaze label mates Marine Girls, though the lyrics have been changed to suit the gender of the new singer. 

Each song has been carefully remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The record is sleeved in a replica of the cassette artwork featuring the Cybermen and Zoe from the Doctor Who episode "The Wheel in Space". Every copy includes a double sided 11x11 insert with lyrics, notes and never before seen photographs of the band taken by Maf as well as a postcard featuring an original advert for the cassette.

In their formative years, Palberta’s live performances often involved moments of synchronized dancing and humorous performance art in between or during songs. Touring the states extensively, they developed a reputation as a “must-see” live band on the DIY circuit. Over the course of the last five years, they've honed in on a distinct and arresting sound, incorporating gorgeous three-part harmonies into their chaotic grooves and working with a slew of talented musicians from within their circle. Eventually the mercurial nature of their early performances began to manifest itself in their music, with each Palberta release proving to be more full of surprises than the last.
Roach Goin' Down is Palberta's most impressive album to date. Twenty-two tracks combine the band's signature frenetic instrumentation with a thoroughly developed pop sensibility that fans merely glimpsed on previous releases. The songs are lovingly crafted and shine with the confidence of a band discovering new musical possibilities and having a blast doing it. As usual, their excitement is sonically palpable, yet this time it's grounded by a lyrical nuance and newfound melancholy that gives the record an air of maturity compared to previous releases.

Recorded by frequent collaborator Paco Cathcart (The Cradle), Roach Goin' Down is a brilliantly constructed work of beauty and bile. Palberta continue to pave the way as innovators in the field of guitar-based music, delivering a barrage of twisted, catchy hymns that manage to be both challenging and feverishly compelling.
