This is my absolute favorite. On "Nightfall" everything is right. A track lovingly worked out to the very last detail. Ingenious songwriter quality that is timeless-brilliant. Melodies for eternity, whose magic does not wear off even after several runs. A transparent, oppressive production of an incredibly accomplished musician who puts his skills solely in the service of the track.

Resung, remixed and remastered from almost four years ago.

This is a clash of psychology with science, and, well, early The Cure meets Bowie's Scary Monsters. It's easy to be close to somebody and still not be seen or heard no matter how loudly you speak. Mixed all this up with some actual invisibility science, so believe it or not, in terms not being seen this song stands on solid physics, until it doesn't....

Bend The Light | The Boilerman 🎸

This is a collaboration with Taylor Brysiewicz.  Upon discovering an adequately functioning upright piano in the basement of the conference room at the Banff Centre (where we were both visiting for a conference on Random Algebraic Geometry), we decided to play some improvisational piano duets which led to this collaborative composition.  Taylor had the foresight to take a quick audio memo on his phone where we recorded a few excerpts alongside some commentary about the chord progression.  After returning home from the conference, Taylor turned our fragments into a completed piano part.  I then added a flute part while trying to maintain the impromptu spirit of the original, namely, by locking in some of the improvised phrases from my early takes (as opposed to indulging in my normal habit of making dozens of rounds of revisions).
