Danny Wabbit - Haze [Artaphine Premiere]

New school techno star Lee Ann Roberts continues to light up 2021 with another brand new single on her own NowNow Records. Her standout original is backed by remixes from MRD and D.A.V.E. The Drummer.

This year already belongs to South African-born, Amsterdam-based Lee Ann Roberts. Her new label has had high-profile support from tastemakers like Charlotte de Witte & Ken Ishii, and is already well known for its off-grid techno sounds. Roberts herself debuted only last year on Suara. She immediately hit the number 2 spot on the Beatport Hard Techno chart and followed up with more on Octopus Warehouse Series. She has played festivals like Caprices this year and is lined up for BPM as well as plenty more headline gigs.

The excellent 'Feel' is a nine-minute, hard-edged roller. The drums are flat-footed and unrelenting, the synths bring turbulence and dark vocals add dystopian unease. The edgy textures and caustic pads make for a visceral groove that is perfectly designed for shadowy warehouse spaces. An Acid Trip Mix sees the track erupt on wild acid lines that spray about the mix and cannot fail to blow up the dance floor.

Remixer MRD hails from Norway and has released plenty of EPs and an album in a short space of time. He has a ferocious sound that fuses new wave, hardcore and banging techno as evidenced here. His version is break-neck techno with trance pads lighting up the airwaves in euphoric fashion.

The second remixer is the legendary London techno titan and label boss D.A.V.E. The Drummer. He heads up Hydraulix Records and Apex Recordings and always brings the fire. His take on 'Feel' is a wall-rattling banger with oversized bass. Saw-tooth synths rip up the track while the stark, strobe-lit stabs and some buried vocals make the floor sweat.

The is another powerful package of forward-looking techno from Lee Ann Roberts.

After numerous contributions to various artist compilations of labels such as Exhale or Carbone Records, the debut EP of Drept resident Gräfin will be released on MITSU2000 on November 19, 2021. The Istanbul-based artist is no stranger to the scene - her tracks have made their way into the playlists of many DJs and could be heard during different club nights all across Europe and beyond. Gräfin's productions bring a breath of fresh air into the scene - although in line with the current revival of fast-paced techno trance, she manages to connect hard rhythms and immersive melodic elements in a very unique way. Her EP "A Twinkle On Milky Way" is fully dedicated to that sound. It includes four original productions by the Turkish artist and a remix by her label colleague Dwysedd.

Emerging as artist of note for both now and the future, Chlär continues to craft and shape his sound as he curates
his own high-octane approach to techno. Combining dynamic performances taking in three and four deck mixes with his own up front productions and his talents as a former mastering engineer, the Swiss talent has become a respected name amongst his peers. After releases on Lobster Theremin and his own Bipolar Disorder imprint, the Berlin-based DJ, producer and label boss heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s blooming label Mutual Rytm to deliver six precise and powerful cuts across his ‘Optimized Groove’ EP.

“As the names states, ‘Optimized grooves’ is a collection of tracks designed to match specific parts of the event/night. Opener ‘Early Morning Acceleration’ sets the tone early and dives into a looping ride through slinking hats and bustling arrangements - combining classic influences with forward thinking touches to reveal a dynamic slice of techno. Next, ‘Maximum Performance’ fuses swelling low-ends, sharp percussion and vibrant leads, while ‘Love Blaster’ delivers an all out fiesta armed with rolling drums, sharp whistles and rich chords. On the flip, B1 ‘Night Genesis’ sees hypnotic loopy vocals balanced by tough kicks and luminous synths, before ‘Spirit Enhancer’ showcases a soulful trip as resonant electronics work around the track’s tunnelling groove. The digital EP comes with a bonus exclusive production in ‘Synaptic Discussion’, a euphoric and impactful closer which brings things to a close firmly in the peak time hours.

A firm fixture of the VOLTAGE roster and a rising name originating from Ukraine making an impact, Berlin-based DJ and producer Chontane is quickly finding his feet following a string of EPs via ARTS, Lobster Theremin and Rekids Special Projects. Already playing key clubs at the age of just 18, blurring the lines between techno, breaks and electro with his growing trademark sound, his performances across Berlin and beyond have captured the attention of many as he showcases his up-front and powerful sound. Next, he heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s Mutual Rytm imprint for the first time as he reveals his six-track ‘Sycamore’ EP.

SHDW & Obscure Shape invite Invexis for his first 12” in almost 20 years as the German live act and producer returns to Mutual Rytm for his impactful EP, ‘Odyssey’.
With an ethos of merging the past with the present and future, harnessing classic techno influences and shaping them into the sounds of tomorrow, SHDW & Obscure Shape’s Mutual Rytm imprint has become an exciting home for rising talents of note and established artists to shine a spotlight on the genre. However, the next release on the label welcomes a long-awaited return from Georg Köhler, aka Invexis. Known for releases such as ‘Kalibreur’ on Salpeter Records and ‘Chiffre’ on Planet Rhythm Records, with further releases via Compound and Kazumi, the German talent crafted and shaped his own sound within the techno landscape in the early 2000s. Returning with his first EP release in close to two decades, late December welcomes a return to Mutual Rytm, following on from the inclusion of his track ‘Elektronenwind’ on the label’s ‘Federation Of Rytm I’ release, as he delivers a selection of dynamic, melodic and driving techno offerings across ‘Odyssey’.
‘Silhouette’ opens the package with authority as spirited drums and spiralling synths take hold of a twisting and turning lead effort, with ‘Non Return To Zero’ building a spiralling groove via frantic yet measured percussion, sweeping melodies and funky stabs. ‘Red Storm’ opens the B-side with a more up-front production combining harsher metallic tones with relentless drive and crashing hats, while ‘Body Impulse’ utilises dubby stabs and eerie atmospherics to balance light and dark. The title track ‘Odyssey’ closes the vinyl offering, with a euphoric and rapturous production harnessing resonant chords, looping drum grooves and elated leads to bring things to an impressive crescendo and deliver a record that will remain in the ears of listeners for a long time.
As always with the label, digital purchasers are treated to an exclusive track as Köhler combines zig-zagging grooves, refined synths and off-kilter glitches and bleeps across digital exclusive ‘Transition’.

DYNAMIC REFLECTION 15 YEARS – LIQUID SOLIDS  
The second release of Dynamic Reflection’s Time Crystals series explores the deeper end of the musical spectrum somewhat. Function’s opening track delivers almost ten minutes of downtempo modulations before Viels’ Fragile kicks in: punchy, gritty and dancefloor-oriented.  
Dynamic Reflection head honchos and curators Abstract Division give a ‘less is more’ college with Convolution, keeping tension high at all times without ever dropping the kick for more than a couple of beats. 
The closing track sees Ben Buitendijk, Shoal and Vand collaborating under their DOM moniker for this special occasion, delivering a piece of trippy and stubborn techno.  Quantum Realm is part of Dynamic Reflection’s 15 year anniversary celebration: Time Crystals. Slave To Society (ex AnD) returns to Natural Selection with a white-hot experimental techno EP, accompanied by an IDM-infused remix from industrial electronica duo; Somatic Responses.
After a decade of redefining techno dance floors as AnD, Andrew Bowen returned to his experimental, hardware-focussed roots as Slave To Society in October 2019. Since then he has seen his music released by highly revered institutions in the world of hard techno, noise, breakcore, IDM and industrial electronica, such as PRSPCT, Pure Hate, Ohm Resistance and BANK Records NYC. Following on from his remix of Kamikaze Space Programme’s ‘Dust To Dust’, released on Natural Selection in 2022, Slave To Society releases his first full EP for the London-based imprint. ‘Ai Invasion’ releases in April and takes up the torch from Versalife and Rommek, whose prior releases via Natural Selection saw support from the likes of Dave Clarke, Tommy Four Seven, Takaaki Itoh, The Advent, Annie Hall, Alienata and more.

‘Ai Invasion’ is a sonic exploration of the symbiotic relationship between humanity and technology. Slave To Society uses carefully designed futuristic soundscapes and atmospheric textures, layered with AI generated vocals, combined with heavy and fiercely unpredictable drum elements. Expect advanced, experimental hard techno and noise, fused with powerful low-end muscle, raging hi-hats, fragmented percussion and augmented amens. In true Slave To Society fashion, all rules and boundaries are smashed to pieces and all tracks are equally suitable for blasting through the world’s biggest club systems and rigs as they are for home listening.

The release also features a razor sharp and well-placed remix of track B1 - ‘Robot Dementia’, courtesy of legendary hard industrial electronica duo; Somatic Responses.

‘Ai Invasion’ comes in the form of a complete multimedia project and features an immersive digital video which will be screened, exhibited and premiered as part of the release. Available to purchase and download as an NFT, the video challenges viewers to question the impact of artificial intelligence on our society and the implications of our relentless pursuit of technological advancement.

After contributing to the label with a remix on the 10th release, SDB is back with an EP on Märked, featuring three originals and two remixes by AERT and Repro. The closing track of this EP is called 'Symphony' for a reason. Starting off peacefully, the break evolves slowly into a trance-like anthem before it creates a drastic shift into no-nonsense straight-forward techno.

Stuttgart’s David Löhlein has been involved in electronic music for a number of years and launched his Vision Ekstase event in his hometown of Stuttgart before providing the inaugural release on the newly formed label which picked up support from the likes of Ben Sims, Luke Slater, Efdemin and many more established names within the techno world. David now invites remixes from Mote-Evolver artist Rene Wise, Planet Rhythm producer VIL and Vision Ekstase residents Rove Ranger and Fabian Wegmeth.
Rene Wise’s remix of ‘Altai’ is a rolling techno shaker featuring revolving percussion, shimmering bass grooves and the hypnotic vocal from the original floating above before Rove Ranger’s Gothic remix deploys sharp hitting drums, fierce modulated tones and haunting leads underneath.
On the flip, VIL’s ‘Red Code’ remix makes way for vibrant, clap-heavy rhythms, driving modulations and resounding frequencies keeping the energy flowing while Fabian Wegmeth’s remix rounds things off with industrial sounding sonics peppered with machine-like synth whirls, menacing oscillations and shrieking soundscapes throughout.

To celebrate hitting their 20th release, Cleric’s imprint pulls together 23 talents for an essential various artist compilation including tracks from the likes of Rebekah, Cleric, Stef Mendesidis, Remco Beekwilder & Stranger, Endlec, Kwartz, Setaoc Mass, Roman Poncet, Slam and many more.

Clergy has become synonymous with a balance of atmospheric and hard hitting brand of techno ever since 2014. The boss's own music has been key to that, with carefully curated releases from guests such as Dax J, Kwartz, Reflec and Cleric himself. Helping to make the label an underground favourite. ‘Clergy Visions 01’ sees Cleric invite an array on techno heavyweights to contribute to this compilation that’s mixed by the label boss himself.
Things open up with the bleak ambience and fizzing electric cables of Jokasti & Nek's 'Grained' then Sept's 'Artifical' lays down a tunnelling techno groove that immediately locks you in. The mysterious alias, Reizemann heads off to a cosmic realm with its deep space pads slowly building the momentum throughout the drums. The energy levels then stay high throughout tracks from Roman Poncet, Kwartz and Setaoc Mass, then leading onto the groove of Stef Mendesidis.
Testament to Cleric's skills as a DJ and sequencer is the fact this journey is constantly evolving while remaining coherent. A mid- section featuring the likes of Endlec, Sleeparchive and EAS keeps you on your toes with perfectly stripped back but hard dynamic drum programming and intense melody work. Remco Beekwilder & Stranger bring a more hard hitting and industrial style before Slam calm the fires once more allowing you to sink into a smooth, elongated roller. It's left to the dystopian darkness of Rebekah and atmospheric techno brilliance of Lerias to close out this most adventurous mix in real style.

747 is an Aquaregia mainstay who is now the focus of a fantastic remix package featuring Schacke, Tin Man, nthng and Primal Code.
Three years after the original’s release, new life is given to 747’s widely acclaimed acid anthem, Aurora Centralis. The uplifting track, characterized by its iconic singing 303, captivated a wide audience of music lovers of all ages and backgrounds while receiving heavy play from the likes of Aurora Halal, Dr. Rubinstein, Charlotte De Witte, I Hate Models and Bicep. It now is revisited by four masterful artists: Schacke, Tin Man, nthng and Primal Code, each bringing a unique take. Opening the release, Schacke, a leader of Copenhagen’s fast techno-trance movement and rising techno star, delivers a fast and euphoric revamp. His ‘Kisloty People’ and ‘Trained To The Floor’ were some of 2019's biggest tunes and he now follows with his remix of 'Aurora Centralis' - a high energy, high tempo infectious groove amongst floating eerie synths. Tin Man is a master of acid undulations who has put out countless LPs and EPs on Acid Test and Global A Records. Here he serves up a perfectly soft and tender acid lullaby with zoned out pads glowing up top like distant stars. After cult classics on Lobster Theremin, Delsin and more, nthng’s dreamy, soulful sound is much loved and he provides his first ever remix here. Over 10 minutes he takes you on a cosmic ambient techno voyage to the edges of the galaxy on surging groves that leave you entranced.
For the final track, Primal Code have taken their dreamy sound, lush acid melodies and delicate drums to the likes of Hypnus, The Gods Planet and Semantica. It's a style that fits perfectly for this label and their remix is a warm, bubbly and deep techno classic with fuzzy acid and slick drum loops that lock you in the zone. Tin Man’s ‘Detroit Remix’ and nthng’s ‘Saiyan Dream’ are two superb digital bonus tracks to round things out.
