'TRAPPIST ONE' is an attempt to create some of the emotions and state of minds while being on the ship towards our next destination within this multiverse. 'Intergalactic Light Ensemble' is traveling at lightspeed towards adventure, and midst of travel we discover something unexplained. 'Waves and Waves' is the contemplation of that moment. 'Alarma' is a code red, losing our minds as we encounter a energyforce which has far greater powers than we ever imagined. How do we face such powers? 'Eon' gives answer to such quations, as we progress into our creative awareness, and gaining new insights on how to manipulate energy.

The Ctrls class of inventive, inorganic techno is a mainstay of Token’s output. For his ninth solo EP, he takes a trip down a back alley to the spirit of some of his earlier releases on the label.

The Shortest Path starts with flitting high-end precision accompanied by a gracefully deviating tone that’s as close to the natural world as Ctrls is prone to handing over. It takes on new life with a sparse and ultra-synthetic groove.

Rush Hour is gripped by an acute yet almost-imagined drone that builds intensity before going all in. The oddball break takes it down and whips back around to shuddering effect.

Crash is a full-scale collision. Slamming into that Ctrls brand of strange and discordant percussive details, a fierce and perfectly unpleasant bass is teased by semi-conscious accents.

Highway comes in on a half-step, straightening up with a muted klaxon crescendo into hypnotic transit.

A first for Token, the Routing EP  includes two staggering, driving locked grooves crafted in the spirit of the rest of the record.

TOKEN72 - Ctrls - Routing

Sawtooth Novel is a killer track, a special weapon intended for the dancefloor. The rest of the EP turns around powerful techno to more deeper and mysterious atmospheres. After his brilliant works on Token and Cocoon Records, Johannes Volk continues to impress us!
Some Johannes words about his work for Artcub Records: “The title track “Sawtooth Novel” is my little hommage to the old Sägezahn sound. There was a Sägezahn renaissance in the Rhein Main area end of the 90’s, which was a huge influence for me when I went to clubs during this time. “Counterbalance” has a rather subtle approach, the track lives from its effects and filtering. For the others tracks I want to express the more darker and dramatic side of techno, which is also well-equipped for the more excessive dancefloor hours.

The third collaborative EP sees Clergy boss, Cleric, team up with French artist Kmyle. On remix duties is Blueprint label owner, James Ruskin, in what is a perfect way to conclude the final chapter in this series of five releases (CRG011 - 015). The ‘Empty Shells EP’ is due for release April 12th.

‘Empty Shells’ offers an unusually stripped back approach, concentrating on the raw modular rhythm that carries the track. Ruskin then offers his own perspective, adding sparse percussion and different synth elements to offer a driving counterpart to the original.

The flip side starts with ‘Vostrax’, a strong, powerful production that teases you with acidic elements that breathe in and out of solid rhythmic, distorted drums. For the final track of the EP ‘Televised’ slows things down in tempo, but still offers a hard hitting edge.

Protagonist status in one city is high praise indeed; holding key stakes in several is something else entirely. Something that Spanish born and Scottish bred Dave Tarrida can boldly claim.

Tarrida’s timeline begins in 1991 in Edinburgh as founder and resident of the now legendary Sativa club. Here’s where Dave met Neil Landstrumm, Tobias Schmidt and Cristian Vogel, becoming a foursome that would continue to share gigs—the others live, Dave as DJ—and labels—like Tresor, Scandinavia, Mosquito and Sativae—for the first half of their respective careers. In 1994 the club bore Sativae Recordings, which Dave manned together with Steve Glencross, spawning the sibling Drought Records imprint two years later. Around the same time Dave took to the studio, though it would be another few more years before any records would materialise.

1999 was a turning point that saw Dave return to his native Barcelona, where he would spend the following eleven years honing his production craft and exceptional deck-side manner with local residences at Moog (which he still frequents today) and Nitza, as well as Stardust in Madrid. It was the same year that Tresor released his first solo record, ‘Postmortem Pop EP’, having debuted the year prior in collaboration with Tobias Schmidt on ‘The Test EP’. He produced two albums during this period: ‘Paranoid’ in 2001 for Tresor, and ‘Life’s a Glitch’ three years later—Sativae’s final record.

In 2010 Dave relocated again, this time to Vienna where he is currently based. After two decades of happily playing the role of DJ and promoter, 2013 sees Dave shift focus back on his own productions with the unveiling of his brand new label AUTOFAKE and pending releases for Housemeister’s soon-to-be re-launched All You Can Beat stable, and Funk D'Void’s Outpost Records. Saying that, he hasn’t quite hung up the headphones just yet. As the saying goes: you can take the DJ out of the club, but you can’t take the club out of the DJ—expect to see the name Dave Tarrida on many a flyer to come.

Athens based DJ & producer, Jerm, debuts on Soma with a massive new release, Electric City EP. A relative new face to the greater Techno world, Jerm is quickly ascending the ranks with multiple hard hitting original productions and remixes which are garnering attention across the board. His debut Soma release sets down strong roots with direct and unrelenting Techno, moving from hard edged industrial sounds, to jacked up 90s flavoured elements. Also appearing for the first time on Soma, in the form of a remix, is UK Techno maverick, Manni Dee.

Control Theory opens the release with powerhouse beats and eviscerating synths and a colossal amount of attitude. Manni Dee’s remix of Control Theory feeds on that attitude and take it up even more with clear nods to the rapid Birmingham sound. Glass Chinn keeps the intensity flowing with galloping percussion that leads directly into a dark, driving and industrial-esq affair. Maiden Voyage works in more hypnotic elements whilst still retaining Jerm’s concussive and direct sound. The jacking and funked up vibes of Booze Cruise can be found as a Bandcamp exclusive.

real underground music. Our wish is to be able to work with producers who want to keep
the spirit and the mindset convey by this music. We want to be able to create a “family” of artists of international reputation who would be part of the label.

ARTCUB (Vinyl/Digital) is a techno music label with several facets. Indeed, we don’t want a 100% dance floor or dark techno label, because other labels already do it pretty well.
We want to offer vinyl releases of a high quality and great diversity because when we buy
a techno vinyl we love to have a punchy, powerful and aimed towards the dance floors
track, but not only… We love to have on the other tracks, something more mental, more deeper with an evolving atmosphere, more electronica in the spirit and more old-school sometimes,
and why not also having a bonus intro, an outro or even a DJ Tool.
In our opinion, when a vinyl combines those different universes, with tracks of qualities
which will last in time then it’s a must have.
