When I first decided to dive into music production, I had no idea what I was doing—just a pull to make something real. I started learning how to write songs, stumbling through it like everyone does… and then this one came through, almost out of nowhere.

It’s probably my third or fourth mix of this track—still not perfect, I know—but something about it felt bigger than me. Like I touched something I wasn’t fully ready for, but it called me forward anyway.

Chasing Stars is what gave me the bug. Ever since I wrote it, I haven’t stopped. This song is the beginning of everything I’m building now.

Some songs arrive like thunder—unexpected and electric. This one hit me out of nowhere on a complicated day. It was the birthday of someone incredibly important to me, yet circumstances meant we weren’t speaking, couldn’t celebrate.

At exactly 4:44 PM, inspiration struck like a lightning bolt, and about an hour later, the bones of “44
4” were laid out. It started with the saxophone sample—melodic, soulful, irresistible. But then came the big swing: a chaotic, heavy bassline designed to destabilize everything, shaking the foundation of the song.

Because that’s what it felt like emotionally: trying to hold steady while the ground beneath you cracks open, the feeling when your heart is racing but you keep moving forward anyway.

This track is about keeping your course through the chaos—finding beauty in instability, rhythm in disruption, and strength in the storm.

I’ve always felt a powerful connection to “Holy Ghost” by A$AP Rocky. Beyond its beautiful arrangement, the song captures the tension between genuine spirituality and the often superficial, judgmental world of organized religion. My own spiritual journey has led me to embrace a more Daoist philosophy—one that sees divinity in universal energy rather than societal validation.

Too often, organized religion can become entangled with judgment, gossip, and performative behaviors that Rocky so vividly critiques. This remix is my expression of gratitude and homage to a song that deeply speaks to the importance of authenticity and inner truth over external appearances.

I grew up in Sunrise, Florida—Kodak Black always captured something raw and real about where we’re from. It’s a wild place; beautiful, chaotic, vibrant, and sometimes dangerous. I’ve still got family teaching in Pompano, roots just north of Palm Beach, and ties in Miami and Coral Springs.

Wanted to bring my Cuban heritage into this cover—making it sound like something you’d hear cruising Miami, blending that gritty Kodak authenticity with some Cuban flavor.

In 2018, Lil Peep released Life Is Beautiful — a song that’s always stuck with me because of how brutally honest it is. He lays out painful realities with numb delivery, flips it into “isn’t life beautiful / isn’t life horrible,” and ends with some of the most gut-punch questions in music: if I try s*icide, would you stop me? Would you help me get a grip or would you drop me?

As someone who’s struggled with those feelings, this track has always felt like a mirror. And knowing Peep’s passing, those words hit even harder now.

My remix takes that honesty and leans into the darkness. The original had a mellow, detached vibe. But seven years later, everything feels heavier — shootings, political violence, fear all around us. I wanted my version to reflect what it feels like to carry that weight in 2025, while still holding onto the fragile thread of hope Peep left in the song.

This is also part of Pandemic — my ongoing project to process mental health struggles, gun violence, and my own fears through music. It’s not about glorification; it’s about facing the demons we all live with, and hopefully offering connection to anyone who needs to know they’re not alone.
