This is Surroundings.

For our new series with Shure we follow three artists as they create new music from the sounds of their cities. Featuring Flava D in London, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith in Los Angeles and Honey Dijon in Berlin.

This month, we head to Berlin to meet one of the city’s newest residents, Honey Dijon. On a spring afternoon in Neukölln we followed Honey as she captured the sounds and voices of the streets before heading to the studio and building them into a dizzying 4:4 house tune.

Brooklyn natives Earth Boys, consisting of Julian C. Duron and Michael Sherburn, unveil their highly anticipated debut album 'eboys' via San Francisco-based label Public Release, which includes the deep breakbeat house stunner 'Blue Iris'.

With releases on 1080p, Let's Play House, Public Release and Mike Simonetti's 2MR imprint, the duo blend warm, soulful and hazy textures to deliver a unique brand of raw house music that nods to classics of the past while also showcasing an innovative approach. Their debut album delivers the expansive scope of their sound with an eclectic array of 12 tracks, a body of work that sets the stage for the future of Earth Boys, which clearly looks bright.

'eboys' is set for release September 28.

Premiere: Earth Boys 'Blue Iris'

After cult heroes Bicep delivered the inescapable sell-out ‘Stripper’ earlier this year, the second Love Fever release comes from burning London talent, Citizen and features a ‘Deeper Touch’ collaboration from Detroit’s wayward freakster, Jimmy Edgar.
 
Born out of East London's underground party, Love Fever Records seeks to expand on the erotic potency of the parties late nights and early mornings guided by residents come label owners A&A. The emerging sound, a heavy leaning on purist house dosed up on sleaze, grinding up against something to some romantic techno.
 
A Love Fever regular, Laurence Blake AKA Citizen is the dreaded up South London cool kid with a fresh sound full of modernity and attitude. His productions punch so hard, A&A stole him from their dancefloor after a personal demo delivery impelled the boys to get the music on record for the world to hear. Quietly rocking London dancefloors with his heavily defined, underground sound for the past few years, parallels have since been drawn with major British breakthroughs Julio Bashmore and Wbeeza. With the debut ‘Deep End EP’ on Kerri Chandler’s MadTech causing a stir Citizen looks set to become a prolific talent as he enters the Love Fever Records hall of infamy.
 
A side ‘Room Service’ gives you that call girl temptation, getting straight to the point with smoky bass and teasing intonations leading up to the flipped out vocal, stabbing synths and body rocking drop. ‘You Give me that something is the warmer, body melting B side, soulful vocals in pools of distorted chords and immersed in Citizen’s signature sound bed of rich bass filtered through a tight house groove. Add to that Jimmy Edgars twisted take on the Love Fever parties sound that slows down in tempo but with an added electronic sensuality for a “Deeper Touch” and you have something rather beautiful.
 
With a wandering hand in the pool of the globes most revered house and techno elite, expect future Love Fever releases with luminaries such as Larry Heard, Wolf + Lamb as well as the boys themselves…

Chicago legend Jamal Moss, also commonly known as Hieroglyphic Being, supplies a diverse collection of electronic excursions on his 'R-Spirits Will Not Be Broken' EP via Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers’ Tuskegee Music imprint, including the acid-tinged deep house cut 'Salvation Is The Cure'.

Having been strongly influenced by witnessing Ron Hardy play at the iconic Chicago venue Muzic Box, Jamal's been known to showcase a raw and unapologetic essence to his distinctly original material. His latest outing sees him break the mold of dance music once again, with four tracks that reveal his innovative approach to music production.

London based @Hyasynthe pulls up slowly building delight, Aurora. Particles shuttle around in the upper atmosphere, causing reddish and green hues to dance, all as that same sample loops over and over, building, waxing and waning. How can the producers use of Ableton 10, 808’s and your own heartstring have such an effect on the magnetic pole of the earth? we're completely unsure. 

We never thought something with so emotionally driven, and many hued could be birthed from someone hailing from Milton Keynes; what some call the Jewel of the Buckinghamshire heartland, but most consider the complete antithesis. Opposites attract, we suppose but this sonic sonnet is one to be saved, that’s for sure.
