Tropical Vibe @ La Bellevilloise - Live set

Funk is a worldwide phenomenon which overtook by far US borders. Indeed, it has been played on all continents. We made a mix focused on funk coming from Africa, and because when people think of Afro funk they mostly focus on the Nigerian and Ghanaian scene, we focused mostly on French-speaking western Africa productions (Senegal / Cameroon / Ivory Coast…), that we feel too often ignored!

This mix highlights some raw gems from a culture which we would like to see more in the music world. We worked in a participative way. Funky French League DJs suggested tracks and took part in the creative process of this journey, a digest of afro-funk crafted for the dancefloor.

French Funk Finest!
Mighty Malka Family is french funk best kept secret. Founded in 1988 the combo includes 13 musicians and singers.
They put out their first LP « Malka on the Beach » in 1991, signed to Warner releasing their second LP « Tous des Oufs », and became the cornerstone of the Funk scene in France. 
Touring all around France and Europe, they shared the stage with bands such as Daft Punk, Chic, Manu Dibango, Roy Ayers, and Supreme NTM… Coming back to their indie roots with the french funk label « Big Cheese Records », they released « Fricassée de Funk » in 1994 and split up after the release of « Fotoukonkass » on RCA BMG in 1997.
After a 18 years hiatus they made their come back with the single « Donne-Moi Ça », as first single of their fifth album « Le Retour du Kiff » coming out 25th of November. 

With Woody Braun (sax) an active member of Malka Family in its core, Funky French League delivers a tribute mix with classics, exclusives and forthcoming Malka Family songs.

S’il y a bien un truc étrange dans le milieu de l’ « entertainement », c’est la façon dont sont (dé)considérés les gens joyeux, au charisme communicatif, porteur de joie de vivre et d‘allégresse.
Si on ne devait garder qu’un Dj de la scène parisienne irradiant de ces indéniables et merveilleuses caractéristiques ce serait à coup sur « Arthur Chaps ».
Ce gazier est la preuve vivante et musicale qu’on peut être à la fois festif, distrayant (au sens le plus noble du terme) exigeant, curieux et fédérateur.
Arrivant aujourd’hui au sommet de son art, ce Peter Pan éternel propose des mixs aussi élégants qu’imprévisibles.
Il réussi à faire fusionner toutes ses nombreuses influences dans un tourbillon dévastateur auquel aucun dancefloor ne peut résister.
Enfant du hip hop puis de la house (son creuset générationnel), sa perspicacité et sa boulimie lui permettent d’intégrer peu à peu toutes les musiques vers lesquelles sa curiosité jamais rassasiée le pousse.
Ainsi il devient petit à petit une référence solide et incontournable pour tous les parisiens curieux en musiques africaine, caraïbéenne, brésilienne, bref un champion toutes catégories du « collé-serrés » en tous genres (du truc improbable exhumé des années 60 au son ultra actuel glané on ne sait trop comment …)
A mi chemin de l’héritage de Dj Gregory et de celui d’RKK, Arthur Chaps, déjà vieux briscard des platines malgré son jeune âge, propose un florilège à la fois terriblement contemporain et indiscutablement intemporel.
La qualité de ses références et la façon dont il les malaxe et les restitue offrent aux clubbers autant qu’à l’auditeur passionné un kaléidoscope jouissif et coloré qui, quoi qu’en disent les pisse-froid, demeure le gage ultime du parfait « party maker » !

Après une série de remixes de stars françaises provenant du back catalogue  Warner Music (Françoise Hardy, Sheila, Véronique Sanson ...), la Funky French League est de retour avec de nouveaux reworks qui explorent le disco latino-américain,

trois titres tous sortis en 1980.

"Baila Mi Ritmo" d'Irakere, de Cuba écrit et composé par la légende Chucho Valdes sort en 3 versions (mix prolongé / montage radio / dub).

"Dance, Dance, Dance" par Orquesta Novel  formation latino-américaine de New York.

"La Cotorra" du venezuelien Perucho Conde,  dont le rythme est inspiré de Rappers Delight de Sugar Hill Gang est l'un des tout premiers rap en espagnol.
"La Cotorra" sort également avec une version bonus beat spécialement conçue pour les DJ.
