I started this project during the first covid lockdown. A friend of mine sent me a few tracks by some well known synthwave/vaporwave artists, namely A.L.L.I.S.O.N, Windows96, Hotel Pools and ever since the entire genre has consumed me. I felt compelled to make a new alias to explore the sounds that gave me so much wonder and nostalgia in a time where everything was dark and uncertain.

In Motion (Night Raptor Remix)

L8 NITE TV is an album which tries to capture the feeling you get when you fall asleep with the TV on and wake up at some unknown time late at night when everything still feels like a dream. Come dream and enjoy tonight's feature programming with Crystal Cola!

"A couple years back I was between jobs and found myself wrapped in hiraeth, alleviated only by retreating into a world of 80s made-for-tv films I found on VHS in second hand shops, romance OVA anime sourced from poorly seeded torrents and online image boards. There's an elusive word that exists if you combine this media and consume between 12am and sun-rise, where time stops and the world becomes filled with emotional electric piano melodies, enrapturing memories of lost connections, desaturated trips to the beach, hazy socials and an eternal optimism that you can always come back to tomorrow night, even if it feels out of reach. 
During this time I came across a soundcloud link to an artist that perfectly captured the sounds of those OVAs that I had escaped to. The tunes were layered, the synths sounded vintage, the structures were satisfying and I became instantly transported into that world. That was Crystal Cola's first 3 tracks. I won't go further into what happened next, but we became friends. 
Crystal Cola has only gone from strength to strength, and with L8 Nite TV he showcases vastly expanded abilities to produce layered, complex and exciting modern city pop. With L8 Nite TV Crystal Cola has introduced a wide array of new instrumentation, things that had been hinted to before in his work on cmyk! and with ALISON (who makes an excellent collaborative appearance on the stand out track CROSSTALK). We are greeted with beautiful saxophone licks on CROSSTALK, rhythmic guitar accompanyment on NIGHT WALK and complex sophisticated drum fills on almost all tracks. This is one of the rare moments where we get to hear a producer announce their talent, skill and vision to the world. With each listen, more of the production skills are revealed, all while being super poppy, happy and addictive. 
As I listen to L8 Nite TV for the umpteenth time I find myself once again transported to a happy place which swells a sense of joy and comfort in me. 
Take a trip into late night wonder, with Crystal Cola as your guide."
