I wrote "Cheers to Life" on my 29th birthday after waking up feeling surprisingly good for having partied hard the night before at a Benny Benassi show. The lyrics to this track are a bit different than most of my work - reading more like a stream of consciousness as I reflect on the previous year. Other than touching on my fear of "falling behind" in life, this track keeps it pretty positive. I figure, life is always gonna have its roses and its thorns. It's just part of the human experience. This song celebrates both the ups and the downs. Because, even when your life feels like it's falling to pieces...hey, you're still alive. And that, my friends, is worth a cheers!

Have you ever been totally sure you're over your ex - like, you've 110% moved on. Only to see them at a party a year later and realize "oh, shit...maybe I'm NOT over them..."? Me too. And that's what "Over You" is all about. You see, even though my ex slept around behind my back for years, I guess there will always be a part of me that still loves a part of him. After we broke up, he mostly stayed out of sight and out of mind. But, whenever I would see him again, I would start to miss what we had together (or at least what I thought we had). Luckily, enough time has passed since we parted ways that I can finally say with confidence "I'm over you".

I wrote "don't give up on me" during a pretty rough time in my life. I felt like I was doing nothing but self-sabotaging everywhere I turned, and I had several moments of just wanting to give up on myself, my dreams, and (at times) my life in general. I wrote this song to remind myself that I believed in me. And to reaffirm that I knew I was capable of pulling through the dark times and that I would make it out eventually. This song was a cry to those around me to not give up on me while I was figuring out how to overcome my obstacles and move forward better and stronger than before.

I wrote "Power and Control" about one of my first adventures in polyamory. You see, I was starting to get very close with someone - we were spending tons of time together and connecting on a really deep level. But, their primary partner didn't approve of this intimate connection we were fostering. I'm not sure if it was jealousy, possessiveness, or that they really just didn't like me; but they began manipulating the situation and causing a lot of conflict in order to drive me away. In the end, they won. And the distance between me and the person I was starting to develop deep feelings for grew and grew. It was definitely a big learning experience for everyone involved, and it caused me some of the biggest heartbreak of my life. But, as they say: it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

I started collaborating on this track with the amazingly talented Sergius, a 20 year old producer living in Russia, after hearing his remix of my song "If You Need a Sign".

When I fall in love, I tend to fall hard and fast. But, when I met this one particular human, emotions seemed to escalate more rapidly than usual. He was so beautiful to me, both inside and out. And within just a few days of knowing each other, my heart got swept away. But, it's crazy to tell someone you love them after only knowing them for a week, right?! So instead, I wrote "soon".

In that first week of knowing each other, we connected on so many levels - our lives as artists, our weird obsessions, and all the obscure music we thought only we listened to. We bonded over how we see the world and how the world sees us, realizing we shared the fear of being judged by our worst actions, rather than our best intentions. We quickly learned we were both excessive empaths, chronically sacrificing, and longing to be seen.

Within those first few days of knowing him, he filled a role I didn't even know I needed filled. He reflected me. He gave me the gifts I was used to giving - he listened, he cared, and he made an effort to deeply understand me. And I mirrored him right back. We talked about our feelings for each other within just a few days - neither of us wanting to use the L-word for fear of scaring the other away. But, I knew I had to tell him somehow, so I wrote him these lyrics over an instrumental produced by my very talented collaborator, Siqu.

I was terrified to share this track with him, but when I did, I was met with an equally terrified "I love you too". After all, only psychos say those words that early on! I have a theory as to why we developed this mutual love so quickly. Alongside all the fun of playing "getting to know you" games, connecting over shared interests, and discovering some really unique similarities, we were allowing the other to love themselves. And, if you ask me, it's never too soon for that.
