Today we got an extra special one for ya - not just because it’s from the ever so lovely Joanna Magik, but it's some proper house music vibes. Feel-good, feet-moving records demanding a good time on the dance floor. 

Kicking off the release is the lead record Got Something. With the perfect amount of frequency modulation and one of the dirtiest basslines that's come across our desks, tension and energy keep this record sizzling around a proper crispy house beat. The flip Dancefloor with Smalltown DJs takes the release on a direct flight to Chicago, and we love it!! Funk infused baseline, piano stabs and spiritual vocal samples remind us why we're all here, and that's to lose yourself in the groove. 

We are hyped for Joanna to have her first solo release on the label and without a doubt this release represents her to a tee. Playful energy, great attitude and a reason to get up off that chair and move!

-How long have you been creating music?
I've been creating music for 8 years, but my motivation to DJ started when I was younger, watching my dad perform on his turntables since I was 10 years old.

-What do you use to make your tracks?
I typically use Ableton along with some analog gear. This was the first time ever creating a track with ROMiii.  We incorporated his Eurorack rig for this project — Intellijel Metropolix for sequencing, using an Intellijel Atlantis for the bass line, and an Instruo CS-L for the detuned lead. Additionally, we employed the Moog One (not Eurorack) for various patches, ranging from harmonies to percussive 16th note fills. CV Tools in Live made it incredibly convenient to achieve signal routing and synchronize with the modular setup. To facilitate the I/O connection with the Eurorack rig, we utilized the Expert Sleepers ES-9 as our audio interface.



-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?

I first discovered Dirtybird in 2016 when I had the opportunity to witness a few stages and catch performances by Dirtybird DJs at Tomorrowland Belgium. It was there that I met some amazing people from Chicago who quickly became good friends. They introduced me to my first Campout in 2017, and since then, I have been completely hooked and continuously evolving my unique sound.

-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most? 
Surprisingly, both ROMiii and I are in agreement here: Wyatt Marshall or Lubelski, both of whom have incredible minimal sounds. I find that not only are they exceptional producers, but their music truly resonates with me.

-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you? 
If my life were a movie, it would be titled 'The Ups and Downs.' I strongly relate to the metaphor of a rollercoaster, as my journey has been filled with constant challenges and setbacks. Despite experiencing various hardships along the way, I have consistently pushed myself forward. This resilience is especially true in the life of a producer/DJ, where we often encounter both successful and challenging months.

-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
The best concert I've ever attended would have to be The Cure at Shoreline Amphitheater. Robert Smith's vocals were simply incredible, and the entire band delivered an outstanding performance. Their dark 80s synth sound, which I absolutely love, was executed flawlessly. It was truly a memorable experience to witness The Cure crushing it on stage.

-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
I would travel to the 50s in New York and hang out in jazz clubs where Myles Davis and John Coltrane would play. Seemed like a ground breaking time for music. It would be nice to witness it happen in person. 

-What species of bird best describes you and why? 
A great blue heron is the most similar to me. Just like the bird's tall and lanky stature, i also have similar physical qualities. Also, my patient and dedicated approach to my music, where i am willing to spend hours finding the right sounds until they are perfect, aligns with the bird's behavior as it waits patiently for the right moment to catch its prey. The blue heron's characteristics beautifully mirrors my own in terms of physical resemblance and the way i exhibit my creative process.

-How long have you been creating music?

 JYNX: i have been making music for 12 years

Tegi: I have been creating music for about 7 years now. 



-What do you use to make your tracks?

JYNX: i use my beloved FL Studio.

Tegi: I use Fl Studio mainly to make all my tracks, although i sometimes have used Ableton.



-How and when did you first discover Dirtybird?

JYNX: i first heard of dirtybird back in 2006 when i heard my uncle mix “whos afraid of detroit” in his mixtape he passed around the neighborhood. fell in love instantly. 

Tegi: I discovered Dirtybird a few years ago when i heard a couple of black v necks first tracks



-Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most?

JYNX: N808 forsure. love his style. 

Tegi: Beside Jynx who i have already collabed with, definitely Black V Neck.



-If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you?

JYNX: everything everywhere all at once. 

Tegi: A seriies of unfortunate but fortunate events.



-What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

JYNX: Movement back in 2012. was my first concert. 

Tegi: Probably watching Coldplay a few years back, was definitely memorable.



-If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

JYNX: back to the times house music was first being created. so late 80s. ive always told people i wish i was born in that era. 

Tegi: I would love to go back to the days of the ancient pyramids



-What species of bird best describes you and why?

JYNX: a pigeon because im always bobbing my head lol 

Tegi: The Parrot because sometimes I wont be quiet



-What does Dirtybird mean to you?

JYNX: dirtybird is family 

Tegi: Dirtybird to me means an expression of music, and thinking outside the box and just being able to express yourself.

Mz Worthy, Max Kaluza & TRND top the package with 2 bass heavy heaters, while Mitch Dodge & Hotfire swing through with their signature SD flavour. Chasing those we have one of our BOC favourites Rob Marion, who has teamed up with Good Neighbor for a wonky house jam. Rounding out the package is a super unique one that’s a touch different, but gives off all the right emotions. Welcome, newcomer TDR!!
