The Term "Warm up" With regards to film scoring, refers to a casual creative process preceding a production creative process.

It is used to develop sounds and samples, and experiment with instruments and fine tune them to have the character, shape and flow that you desire for the production process.

These "Warm ups" are for producers and directors to get a sample of what the composer is capable of. 

If you have never heard of the term before, be not dismayed. It is a term only I use in my creative processes.
