Sweet Nothings

I wrote this for a contest. The assigned theme was "Heat". The first half is a rework of a passage from an earlier work that, to me, suggested a very hot, humid place, so I invented a fictitious little bayou town.

The second half is, I think, a forest fire scene (do they have forest fires in the Bayous?). The piece is my idea of what a film soundtrack might sound like. It's also probably the most depressing thing I've written.

A peaceful, sleeping western village - night sounds - a vast valley landscape - a bright, giant, harvest moonrise on the mountain horizon. The moon ascending to illuminate the entire scene. These are the things I see.

My home is a little cracker box overlooking Budd Inlet in Olympia, Washington. I only started composing in recent years, though I had long had the urge. My musical interests are pretty eclectic, as you can see from my repertoire, but I'm most serious about classical music.
