The Vermont father-daughter duo Bob and Sarah Amos presents an exciting and varied program of folk and bluegrass original and traditional songs, with soulful, soaring harmony vocals backed by artful acoustic instrumentation on their new album, Ever Onward. Bob and Sarah have selected some of their favorite original and traditional songs to sing together. Some originals, such as “Ever Onward” and “Falling Away”, are brand new, while others, including “The Hills That I Call Home” and the IBMA Gospel Recording of the Year award winning “One Beautiful Day”, are new arrangements of some of the most popular songs that Bob wrote some years ago for his acclaimed bluegrass band Front Range. Others, including “Blood Red Rose” and “Wherever I Go” are best loved songs from Bob’s solo projects that have been reimagined into vocal duets for this album.

Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Bob Amos is an award-winning songwriter who has recorded twelve albums and performed throughout the USA and Europe. From 1988-2003 Bob was the guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter for the internationally acclaimed band Front Range, which was considered one of the world’s top and most innovative bluegrass bands of their era, performing at major venues and festivals, including the Ryman Auditorium, Lincoln Center, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Bob's song “Blink Of An Eye”, released in 2021 by Danny Paisley, was on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Song Survey for 12 months, spending two months at #1, and a final nominee for the IBMA’s Song Of The Year Award in 2022.

Sixteen years ago Bob began performing with his then thirteen year old daughter Sarah, who has since developed into a vocalist of remarkable power and sensitivity. They currently perform as a duo as well as in a full band format, the Bob & Sarah Amos Band. Together, their vocal blend has been characterized as “mesmerizing.” The joy and artistic camaraderie Bob and Sarah Amos share in recording and performing together is clear. As Bob says, “singing and performing with Sarah has been the highlight of my long musical life. It’s such a natural fit. I wouldn’t say it’s effortless, but it sure feels and sounds that way.” 

Sarah adds, “as long as I can remember, I’ve admired my dad as a musician. That admiration has deepened as I’ve come to understand the nuance and skill behind his musicianship and songwriting ability. I could write a dissertation analyzing his music.”

01 - The Hills That I Call Home

What we have here is something completely unexpected: two part-time performing musicians pooling their considerable resources for a debut album of significant import.

Phoebe Rees began life as the child of two fans of American folk songs, the traditional music of her native England, and of Scotland, where she grew up. Recently, in addition to performing, she’s been working towards a masters degree in music therapy. Community music-making has always been central to her academic, musical, and home life.

Her work in this area has seen her involved in projects throughout the UK and as far afield as Sao Paulo and Mumbai, working collaboratively with music organisations and children’s choirs.

Si Kahn, a rabbi’s son, worked as a part of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in the Southern Civil Rights Movement. He went on to be involved for almost 60 years in people’s struggles from Harlan County coal country to the cotton mills of North Carolina; from the wild salmon fisheries of Bristol Bay, Alaska, to building community solidarity to resist the privatization of the prison system. All the while, he was writing some of the very best songs to come out of the American South.

Kate MacLeod's Mind the Gap, a Neo-Traditional Americana band, has recorded this original song by Kate MacLeod. The band includes award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kate MacLeod on vocals, acoustic guitar and piano, Paul Hammerton on vocals and acoustic guitar, John Bryant on vocals and acoustic bass, and Matthew Metz on vocals and mandolin. 
Mind the Gap has banded together since Kate's been living part-time in Harpers Ferry, WV, looking after an elderly parent. New friends and musical avenues in the area have given Kate new inspiration, as you can hear in this inspiring love song. 
Kate MacLeod's Never Looked So Good to Me Before, captures the bright and optimistic feeling of new love, that renews the soul and rejuvenates life. As with many of her songs, it began from hearing something that someone said, this time during a car ride on winding roads through green fields and sycamore trees.

Welcoming back Si Kahn and George Mann to talk about the new album Labor Day. Si has reached 80 years old, and is contemplating and creating his legacy. He’s written thousands of songs, been a Union organizer and activist on the line with workers, and is a Union member himself. Si enlisted fellow organizer, activist and musician George to produce this album.

This is a collection of 21 songs which range from singable rousting action songs to the more personal, performed with a lot of heart by wonderful artists.

Si Kahn & George Mann – Celebrating the songs of Si Kahn with “Labor Day”

When Simone Keane wrote her new single "Come Back," she’d been reading memoirs and biographies about people who had suffered through drug and alcohol addiction. "'Come Back' is an inner child’s call to its adult self who has lost their way,” says Keane, an independent songwriter and recording artist from Albany, Western Australia. "It is a compassionate cry to anybody who is struggling with loss, loneliness, trauma, grief.  I wanted to cut through the stigma of mental health and substance addiction, with compassion, because right now, we need it more than ever.  I believe compassion is the key to finding our way back.”

Indeed, "Come Back" addresses substance addiction with compassion. Keane says, “Many who struggle with addiction are trying to escape painful memories, trauma, grief, anxiety. Many suffer in silence – some become homeless. I’ve lost friends who died way too young. Luckily, I'm healthy but I know people who are really struggling.  This song is for them.”

A deeply moving animation video for "Come Back" conveys the vulnerability of a character drifting further into addiction. Keane came up with the video’s concept, storyboard, and hand drawings. Keane is donating Bandcamp sales of "Come Back" to Street Smart Australia which runs campaigns for small, frontline organizations helping people facing homelessness.

Keane is a dual Western Australia Music (WAM) Award winner with a total of six nominations. She has released five albums and charted in the Top 10 ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Charts, Top 10 AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels) Charts, and FAI Album Chart (Graced by Leaves, #41 April 2024). She also received an Honourable Mention for US based Music for Humanity Song Contest 2024. Keane’s moving songs receive ongoing airplay around Australia, USA and Canada.
