Something's superficial and shallow only if you do it with that mindset. What she says makes sense and if both side approaches it this way then it's genuine. Besides, it's a bit strange to call something so basic and important in society shallow or "fake".

There are some great places to do that. Especially when you're travelling. I love when I get to meet someone who likes having a conversation on a plane. Also, the whole "talking to strangers to hear a different opinion or view on things" part makes me think of how the tracking online and the profiling/suggestion of the like of what is seen on facebook has a vicious effect of always showing you what it thinks you like and maybe hiding other things you could actually be interested into. So it's kind of sheltering you in your center of interests/comfort zone.

The "fabulous" adjective is a bit effeminate in my opinion. But sometimes there's nothing wrong with a genuine compliment that isn't overboard. I think a simple: nice jacket, where'd you get it? isn't that the latest iphone? Interesting watch, what maker? etc etc

yeah, I wouldn't step out of a conversation like that. That's the interesting part of it all. Of course, if you know you can't handle them or handle someone who can't talk in a civilized way then you're better off either maybe just tell them you'd rather talk about something else or just bring something else up.

I think resorting to "my mother told me not to talk to strangers" is a bit weak. That's an advice for children. So, it's a bit like saying you're a child. Also,, you're putting yourself at risk of a retort here

It depends here if you're interested in the person for business or personal reasons but I think if someone was interesting enough that I end up feeling like I'd want to friend them on facebook or keep in touch in some way or even hang out, I'd try to keep talking to them and just ask their phone number or facebook friend them on the spot. No afterwards.

Adam then shares how cooperation can lead to high status and success, but how once we gain status, our natural tendency is to become a jerk, which leads to our downfall.
