Un décret majestueux sur le dôme de plaisir :

Où coulait Alph, la rivière sacrée

À travers des cavernes sans mesure pour l'homme

Vers une mer sans soleil.

Au milieu duquel une rafale rapide à moitié intermittente

D'énormes fragments voûtés comme une grêle rebondissante,

Ou du grain friable sous le fléau de la batteuse :

Et au milieu de ces rochers dansants à la fois et à jamais

Il rejeta momentanément le fleuve sacré.

Cinq miles serpentant avec un mouvement labyrinthique

À travers bois et vallons coulait la rivière sacrée,

Puis j'atteignis les cavernes sans mesure pour l'homme,

Et a coulé dans le tumulte dans un océan sans vie ;

Et au milieu de ce tumulte, Kubla entendit de loin

Des voix ancestrales prophétisant la guerre ! 
 L'ombre du dôme du plaisir

Flotté à mi-chemin sur les vagues ;

Où s'entendit la mesure mêlée

De la fontaine et des grottes.

C'était un miracle d'un appareil rare,

Un dôme de plaisir ensoleillé avec des grottes de glace !

Une demoiselle avec un dulcimer

Dans une vision, une fois, j'ai vu :

C'était une servante abyssinienne

Et sur son dulcimer elle jouait,

Chant du Mont Abora.

Pourrais-je revivre en moi

Sa symphonie et sa chanson,

Pour un si profond plaisir, cela me gagnerait,

Qu'avec une musique forte et longue,

Je construirais ce dôme dans les airs,

Ce dôme ensoleillé ! ces grottes de glace !

Et tous ceux qui entendirent devraient les voir là,

Et tout le monde devrait crier : Attention ! Méfiez-vous!

Tissez trois fois un cercle autour de lui,
