In his 1961 farewell address, President Dwight D. Eisenhower a man who led armies, then a nation warned of the “military-industrial complex” and the danger of “misplaced power” taking root in our democracy.

More than sixty years later, that echo still rings.
But the machinery has changed its shape from steel to data, from bombs to algorithms, from armies to influence.

This piece is not about left or right.
It’s about the center that holds the citizen’s responsibility to stay alert, aware, and awake.

Eisenhower spoke of the balance between security and liberty.

Democracy isn’t inherited.
