Artspace is excited to welcome you to the launch of the publication Jonathan Jones: untitled (transcriptions of country). Join Jonathan Jones, Julie Gough, Claire G Coleman and Mark Gowing for discussions around the publication at the exhibition’s opening weekend.

Jonathan Jones is a Sydney-based artist and researcher of the Wiradyuri and Kamilaroi Nations of southeast Australia. He works closely with community to create a range of projects that talk to both the historical and contemporary. His projects are grounded in research and work with local Aboriginal Elders and community members to tell local stories from the southeast region.

Julie Gough is an artist, writer and a curator of First Peoples Art and Culture at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Julie’s art and research practice often involves uncovering and re-presenting conflicting and subsumed histories. Her (Briggs-Johnson-Gower) family have lived in the Latrobe region of lutruwita (Tasmania) since the 1840s, with Tebrikunna in the far northeast, their traditional Country.

Claire G Coleman is a Wirlomin Noongar woman whose ancestral Country is on the south coast of Western Australia. Born in Perth, she has spent most of her life in Naarm (Melbourne) or on the road. Claire has written three novels, Terra Nullius, 2019, The Old Lie, 2019, and Enclave, 2022, and a non-fiction book, Lies, Damned Lies: A Personal Exploration of the Impact of Colonisation, 2021.

Mark Gowing is an artist, publisher and designer working on Gadigal/Wangal country, Sydney, Australia. He is the founder of Formist Editions and Formist Foundry, a publisher and a type foundry, and is also co-founder of the groundbreaking music arts organisation Longform Editions. Through his 35 year practice Gowing has produced projects for leading organisations and institutions with a passionate focus on visual art and language, design, film and music.
