DifferentSound invites Operator (Southsea)

The DifferentSound Podcast #288 welcomes Operator! Operator is the alias of UK Techno artist Rich Jones, who has been DJing since the late 90s and producing since the early 00ʼs. After signing multiple successful 12” E.Pʼs to Soma, 8 Sided Dice and appearing on Richie Hawtinʼs Minus, Rich moved away from the trendy big room sound of the time and created Operator in 2012, to let his creative hair down and experiment with a wider sonic palette. This led to well received vinyl E.Pʼs on Audio Assault and Singular initially, and more recently releases on Mindtrip, Symbolism and a 12” LP on Mord. Rich also runs Gnosis Records, which he reserves for his more quirky and weird creations, occasionally veering into house flavours. Being from the UK, where in the early 00ʼs house and techno were often happy bed fellows, this influence is clear in his heavily groovy, swung style. Although always keeping abreast of current trends, Rich mostly focuses on a timeless ‘keep it different, keep it groovyʼ approach, with a penchant for heavy drums, subtle details in the sequence and lots of analog texture.  Noticeable gigs for Rich have included Tresor, Fold, Corsica Studios and Forsage, but for various reasons in the interest of health Rich has hung up his headphones for the foreseeable future. Rich continues to work tirelessly in the studio, though, and has many forthcoming projects in the works, including an E.P on the venerable Ilian Tape, a second release on Ben Simʼs Symbolism and a 12” on Pleistocene Future along with various plans for Gnosis.

Abraham Casado Amador has always maintained a close relationship with electronic music in its different forms. Since around the age of sixteen, he started to play at friend's parties, private underground places and clubs where he was able to develop his mixing technique as well as work with respected artists within a professional environment.

While developing a passion for Techno in DJing, Darkbraham’s interest for producing brought him to his studio where he has been actively creating for nearly two decades now. He began to experiment with different genres and over the years has released a variety of EPs and tracks in digital form. Through his own label Makalawi Music he was able to concentrate on his own vision of Techno. A signature baseline and kick drums inspired by his psytrance days in the beginnings, those are the most prominent in his tracks, as well as eerie melodies and uplifting rhythms.

PURVEYANCE TECHNO TRANSMISSIONS #012 llega desde Coruña para cerrar el año.

ROI es una de las mentes más despiertas y creativas de España, pero también es un productor insaciable, si hablamos de experimentar con la electrónica desde todos los ángulos. Así lo testimonia su proyecto Fanzine, que codirige junto a The Panic Room. Y es que, en este principado electrónico, donde todo se rige por conceptos como pureza, elegancia y devoción por la música, se admira a gente como ROI, capaces de sacrificar
sus mejores años por aportar su grano de arena a la causa, formando a profesionales. 
Como dj consigue, sin perder de vista su tendencia al baile y a la reflexión, combinar, dependiendo del momento, multitud de géneros con coherencia y disfrute, a partes iguales, hasta hilvanar una historia con principio, desarrollo y final. No le faltan virtudes notables, pero las que más se le deben reconocer son las de la constancia en su proyecto musical y la empatía con el público en la pista. De la misma manera, como productor, consigue dar coherencia a un amplio amalgama de influencias de varias décadas, este singular trabajo es muy personal, y como pocos, es capaz de desencadenar un sentimiento que a veces es desconcertante, familiar y acogedor al mismo tiempo.
ROI podría definirse como un agente cultural, que más allá de traer un soplo de aire fresco a las pistas de baile, buscan sin descanso renovar el lenguaje musical con ideas brillantes que hagan que esa experiencia sea mágica, singular, pero sobre todo, tan divertida como accesible y enriquecedora.

BR!NK (alias of Coen Brink, 1992) born in the Netherlands near Amsterdam and currently living in Stuttgart, Germany. 

From his youth he was obsessed with searching and exploring for new music, where his love for House and Techno was born. Now BR!NK produces Techno himself more than three years which already resulted in releases on Influenced Records, Trau-ma, EvilGroove, Donker, RM Label, Synergie, Schimmer, Aesir and more. 

BR!NK knows about the classics, the latest underground releases and creates herewith the perfect  atmosphere for the club, festival or for after’s. You can expect high paced groovy and hypnotic techno in his sets.

LITTLEFISH is an emerging artist from Lille (FR) who enriches the local scene with her immersive, hypnotic sound. In her sound design, minimalist rhythms meet unusual and unsettling sounds, immersing the listener in a universe with a distinctive and unique identity. She channels her emotions and feelings through music that is influenced by the sea and its changing moods.

Duniz Sound is characterised by percussive elements, groovy basslines and hypnotic sounds. He has released on a variety of labels, such as Sbert Rec. E-Hrzn, Codein, Naked Lunch Records and many others. With his label Equal, he is always on the lookout for new musical experiences and actively seeks to shape the scene as a producer, DJ and label owner.
On EQUAL009, the individual hypnotic excursions complement each other to form one big journey.
