This song is for British soldiers who are suffering from PTSD. 
The story of my song ‘British Soldier’ came about when I visited old Sarum, an archaeological site of English Heritage, the site of the earliest settlement of Salisbury in England.
After walking around the place with my friend, we sat on a bench. At that time, there were two kids (aged about 9 and 11) running around, laughing and climbing the historic wall. Their father, who was sitting close to us and looked sad, was shouting telling them to be careful and to take care. My friend and I were saying “Oh we need a map to walk around.” The father kindly volunteered to give us one of their maps. 
After a while, the two kids went to their father and sat with him. The father then started reading them a letter from his psychiatrist, telling them that he cannot play or enjoy his time with them and that they need to excuse him because mentally he is not well. He started to read the whole letter to them and it was very difficult for these two kids to absorb what was written.
I felt very sad for the father and the poor kids. I looked at my friend, who is s medical doctor, and she looked at me too then she said he is probably a British soldier because many of them, following the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, are suffering from PTSD. This incident really resonated with me. I remembered my country (Iraq) and the occupation of 2003 and the destruction that happened to us following the war. I realised that we and by ‘We’ I mean Iraqi people and some of the British/US soldiers are still suffering from the traces of the wars. We are the victim of the wars.
This conversation touched my heart and inspired me to think of doing something that would help the British soldiers who are diagnosed with PTSD and try to make a small difference in their lives, this was my intention. Therefore, I decided to write this song (and possibly other things will be manifested in the future) which expresses my feelings towards this man who might be a British soldier and his kids which broke my heart. Until now I cannot forget the way they were listening and looking to their father and how he told them “I hope you can excuse me because I cannot play with you.” and one of them started to ask him questions about the letter. We didn’t mean to eavesdrop on them; they were very close to us.
The message in the song is very simple. I am trying to tell the British soldier, do not feel guilty, we are both victims of the war and we need to stand up tall, live our life, be strong and to never give up. We should not let the pain drag us to nowhere. 
I tried to search for a song about a British solider, I found one or two and their ideas were different and one of them was old.  
I hope that this song would have a positive impact on them because it was written and sung by an Iraqi girl who experienced three wars in Baghdad –Iraq. As a result of the war of 2003 she lost her father - national and international a prominent scientist - who was kidnapped and killed by the terrorists following the war of 2003.
More recently, I read in the newspaper (The Guardian) that one of the British soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan has ended his life, leaving two children and a wife, because he was suffering from PTSD. This brought tear to my eyes and urged me to do more than a song.
Hopefully, things will change and I will try to channel these feelings and emotions into something big.
