Exploring the common grounds between science and art, Quirijn Verhoog seeks to unveil the contradictions that make up the modern world. Deep in the academic sciences, Verhoog is an alchemist; expressing an acute curiosity for the natural world in its microscopic form. Composed with his background in neuroscience as inspiration, Quirijn Verhoog used his knowledge and wealth of modular synthesizers, translating the activity and signals firing through our brains into captivating electronic music. Clear-cut, yet emotionally loaded, Myelin sets the precedent for a world in which the connection between man and machine is paramount. "I let the synthesizers take the lead on this track, giving them space to randomize notes resulting in a unique and ever changing melody".

The new collaboration between Arvet artists Precursor and Bad Spirit sees each artist bringing their own unique flavour to the new indie-electronic single “Biomarker”. 

This emotional rollercoaster takes the listener through the hardships of life, from blissful ignorance into unfolding darkness. Biomarkers are essential in medicinal practise, but may offer a grim reality to those on the wrong side of the numbers. The melancholy of this song pours from a colourful sound palette, channelling life’s unpredictable forces. Raw emotion is expressed through words that touch those who are caught in nature's cruelty. 

“The scream. The scan. The sound. The ground. The light. The count...” Numbers and values seemingly predict and reign over our lives. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, an unexpected change leading to acceptance and healing. It may just be a matter of chance.

In 2011, Sailor & I - Tough Love was leaked online and became a massive hyped track in the dominant blog space and made it’s way to credible features in traditional media like The Guardian UK, Billboard Magazine and DJ Mag. Several years and remixes later the track has been featured in multiple movies and series on  Netflix and HBO, most recently Friendzone in the fall 2021. So we decided to celebrate with a new, not heard before  version here on @arvet-records.

Frenzied and frenetic, Outis introduce their new high energy electronic cut ‘Not Alone’ on Arvet.

With an EP fresh under their belt, the Palermo duo Outis strike again with quick-fire grooves and an ocean of atmosphere. What sound like disembodied voices flicker across the surface of the track in ghostly harmony as the thunderous bass and eerie tones carry you through.​​

The new single of Precursor is about the growing sentiment around climate change. Trees with the status of evergreen are nature’s best answer to the increasing emissions. Green year-round, they absorb greenhouse gases and spoil the earth with fresh air. Ironically, Evergreen is also one of the largest shipping companies in the world and it raises the question of how we deal with our environment.

With a debut album around the corner, Brighton’s Bad Spirit unleashes the woozy bliss of ‘There’s Nowhere to Run’.

Deep in the basement. The sound of the fridge, the dishwasher, the tumble-dryer - harmonised; humming and thudding on their cycles. 

Recreating these sounds with vocal loops and a broken acoustic guitar, Bad Spirit’s new indie-pop gremlin lurches from below. Strange unburied memories of running barefoot from the front door, standing on a luminous island between the main roads, back and forth and forty miles-per-hour. An unwinding wall of sound, howling flutes, vocals swallowed whole by an oncoming wave.

Compelled by his fascination for the human brain, Dutch producer Quirijn Verhoog brings the modern sound of electronica to the Dutch
music scene. Being a researcher in academia, Verhoog treats his music the same way as his experiments. In GLIA, he takes concepts from neuroscience and brings them to life in emotional electronic music. But
it extends beyond that as his scientific experiments become an integral part in the process of creation.

All science starts with experiments and GLIA was no different. Verhoog spent 3 months recording sounds from his collection of synthesizers to lay the foundation for the album. He then experimented with several sonic ideas to convert his academic research into sound. 
In the track miRNA, gene expression data from an experiment researching biomarkers was used to trigger and manipulate synthesizer parameters. The result of this integration formed the lead sound for
the track. The vocals of miRNA were run through a granular synthesis program to fit the pattern decided by the original data.

Besides direct coupling of data to sound, Verhoog also used sound to imitate biological processes, for
instance in the track Myelin.
“At the time I was beta-testing a module for a small French modular company. This module was
able to generate random midi notes in odd sequences, where it was possible to adjust notes
randomly from each sequence, kind of like a Turing Machine but in harmony. I thought this was
a really fitting way to add sound to the concept of brain signalling, as this is also seemingly
random from the outside, but at the same time the interaction between the neurons makes up an
immensely efficient network”
Each track in the album has its own story, some are about biology, others are more philosophical with
themes touching upon nature and technology. One story in particular that is different from the rest of
the album is “Human”. This track was made during the pandemic, where Verhoog recorded people from
different ethnic backgrounds to chant words of connection and human interaction. Just days after the
last recording the world went into full lockdown.

At first contact, ‘Bliss’ - the new single from Arvet artist Outis - it is apparent that polar forces are at play; the predictable/unpredictable, the stable/unstable.

These contrasts have guided the Palermo based duo’s music for this release. Writing and producing in a freer and unthinking way, allowing these contradictions to emerge .

The first holds stability - marching four-on-the-floor kicks and patient drones carry the track through a coherent path. It’s composition and sound design travelling a sharp and solid track.

In contrast, the next track represents the opposite; the unpredictable and inconsistent. We hear Outis loosen their tight grip on ambient techno traditions, allowing a wilder, untamed version of the duo to burst.
