Arwen Lewis interviews Peter Lewis of Moby Grape.

That comes through crystal clear on Imagination, a new collection of singular songcraft that could only spring from the creative consciousness of Peter Lewis. founding member of the legendary San Francisco rock group Moby Grape. Consider the driving, chiming “Path of Least Resistance,” as radio ready as a rocker can be despite its fierce philosophizing, and “If I Just Had You,” which spins incandescent longing into perfect doo/wop. Delicate guitars and lilting, uplifting harmonies are the warm embrace of “When You Come Back to Me” while pensive piano carries the earnestly heartening “Without You.” Impossible to peg, Lewis also lets loose with a country waltz (“The Garden Song”), a flamenco-influenced tragedy (“La Mujer”) and a jazzy, trippy nightmare (“Frank Zappa’s Ghost”). 

With his voice is in fine fettle, Lewis serves each song—bright and delicate here, gravelly and aching there, even roaring when required—through lyrical themes that ponder mortality versus eternity, illusion versus reality. The 10-track long player is his second release on OMAD Records, a follow-up to 2019’s The Road to Zion, and it marks a deeper collaboration with John DeNicola, main man of the bespoke label. “The songs on Imagination, like those on The Road to Zion, attempt to reveal a certain perspective about life,” Lewis says. “But on The Road to Zion, this perspective was highly personal, whereas working with John on Imagination, we sought a perspective we might share with everyone.”  

They’ll also feel the musicianship. Imagination is a guitar-forward record, with both Lewis and DeNicola reaching out to such friends as Jonathan McEuen, Rob Bailey and George Adrian, whose top-tier talent rounded out their own playing. “The guitarists on this record were not chosen for the number of notes they can cram into one measure, but for being at the right time and place with the notes they played,” Lewis points out. 

Also at that echelon are drummers Brian Delaney, Tommy Allen and Don McCauley, plus Alan Zahn on piano, Jeff Elliot on trumpet, Marc Muller on pedal steel and Randy Tico on bass. And though the record was largely achieved by trading tracks back and forth from the west coast to the east, the genuine emotion and immediacy of the sound belies technological quilting. “The process allows for on-second-thought chances to make the music better,” Lewis says. “The trick is in not overworking it, in keeping all the players in a creative mood until you’ve made your point and knowing when it’s time to move on.” 
Now it’s time for listeners to enter Peter Lewis’s Imagination. What insights you glean from the words, what spirit you hear in the sound, what it makes you think and feel—about dreams, doubt and deception, life, love and the everlasting—will be yours alone. All Lewis will suggest, in terms of a shared experience, is a favorite line from Lost Horizon: “‘There are moments in every man’s life when he glimpses the eternal.’ I have been searching for this glimpse all my life and my sincere wish is that anyone out there searching for it too might find hope for their journey in this record.”

Graham Palmer is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in the Santa Barbara area, and owner of Surprise Studio in Buellton, California.  Palmer has performed with and/or recorded a wide variety of artists in his 20+ year career in the music business including Mad Caddies, Antonionian, Wil Ridge, Remy Morritt, Arwen Lewis, and others.  After spending over a decade as a touring bass player, Palmer settled down and built his studio in 2022, where he works as a composer and studio engineer for a multitude of projects in the music and film industries.

Current Projects:

Imbibe - A short film.  Music composed by Graham Palmer.  All sound recording, dialogue editing, and sound design by Graham Palmer.  Currently in post production.  Beginning and end musical themes attached.

Song Club Radio Hour - A weekly show comprised of about 15 singer/songwriters/producers. Each week the participants are given a song title and 3 prompts (some musical, some not) and are tasked with writing, recording and releasing the song 6 days later on the show's broadcast.  It airs live on Friday nights on the Song Club Radio Hour YouTube page as well as KPTZ 91.9 in Washington.  Season 6 starts this fall. Graham Palmer joined the show back in 2020 at the start of season 2.  Two sample songs attached.

Redacted Choir - An instrumental duo featuring Graham Palmer and Jordan Dalrymple.  2nd full length LP is completed tracking and currently being mixed by grammy-winning mix engineer Cian Riordan (St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney).  One sample song attached.

Logan Livermore Band - 6 piece alt-country project based in the Santa Ynez Valley.  The band features Logan Livermore, Graham Palmer, Sascha Lazor, Austin Beede, Nick Fitzgerald and James Longoria.  Full length LP in the works.  One sample song attached.

In 1966 amid a flurry of feedback, tremolo and fuzz the Electric Prunes emerged from the confines of their Los Angeles garage onto the world stage.  Their hit single, “I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)”, widely recognized as one of the first psychedelic hit records, heralded a transition in music and its presentation.  Mojo Magazine writes, “Quite simply one of the defining moments of psychedelic pop.”
The follow-up single, “Get Me To The World On Time”, named one of the top 100 psychedelic records by Mojo Magazine, is recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the #20 psychedlelic record of all time.   The band’s second album “Underground” is viewed as a “classic psychedelic masterpiece” and a cut from their “Mass in F Minor” concept album was selected for the soundtrack of the classic film “Easy Rider”.

Jesus Mind Glaze is the vision of singer-songwriter-producer Cameron 
Lowe. His psychedelic infused rock n roll songs are ecstatic expressions of childlike wonderment, bucking societal pressures, and the magical 
rediscovery of a forgotten freedom. Cameron’s first album Age Of 
Reflection was released in 2021.

Jake DeNicola is a NYC based Director of Photography and Producer. Along with his interest in visual anthropology, comes his deeply passionate and active engagement in filmmaking. Born and raised in Greenwich Village, Jake’s work spans from documentary film, music video, short narrative, commercial, fashion and shooting livestream music concerts for Pitchfork Tv, bridging his two passions of music and film together. His own work has appeared in film festivals like, The Catskill Mountain Film Festival, The Glendale International Film Festival, Greenwich Village Film Festival and The Coney Island Film Festival. Jake has also Dp’d for directors, Chris Dapkins, and Academy Award nominated documentarian, Christine Choy. Jake is currently in post-production for his short film, 8 Deer, in which he documents a college student returning to his indigenous community in Oaxaca, Mexico for the first time in 8 years.  Jake is also a musician, with his primary instrument as drums.  We are playing tracks today on the show that feature him as a drummer, from his band Fovea, and also a track from Peter Lewis’ record Road to Zion, and Arwen Lewis’ debut album Arwen, all produced by John DeNicola and released on Omad Records.

SN2 | EP4 -  Jake DeNicola on The Arwen Lewis Show

After years of playing a circuit of R&B clubs and events and speakeasies in the Pacific Northwest, Don Stevenson trekked down to the Bay Area in the summer of ’65. He’d recently joined The Frantics. The following summer he co-founded the iconic San Francisco band, Moby Grape. Playing ballrooms, like The Fillmore and Avalon, the Grape instantly became the darlings of the Bay Area, and the object of a massive bidding war. In the early weeks of ’67 the fivesome shuffled between San Francisco and Los Angeles with record company executives from Columbia, Atlantic, and Elektra elbowing each other out of the way, with contracts and pens in hand. Signing with Columbia, Moby Grape recorded their debut in a handful of sessions in the spring of ’67. The album came out a few days after Pepper and a couple of weeks later, the Grape played a killer set at the Monterey Pop Festival.  
As a songwriting-singing drummer, Don Stevenson was a trailblazer, opening the door for the likes of Levon Helm and Don Henley. Moby Grape’s self-titled LP isn’t just one of the best debuts in history, it’s one of the best albums ever cut. It’s now over half a century after those heady days and today Stevenson is putting out his third solo album, Limited Engagement—Volume 1. Produced by Jamie Collins- SoundSuiteMusic, and featuring such talent as Tim Bovaconti (Burton Cummings Band), Dane Clark (John Mellencamp Band), and Dale Ockerman (Doobie Brothers), the album includes 11 stellar tracks tapping into all the genres Moby Grape explored so many years ago.  
With another dozen tracks in the can, Stevenson’s next album is right around the corner and he’s looking into the past, present, and future all at once. At 82, Don Stevenson has every bit as much energy as those two generations younger and you’ll witness this when his band hits the stage at Massey Hall. Having shared the bill with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Steve Miller, The Byrds, BB King, Buddy Guy, Sly Stone, and a host of others, Don Stevenson is no stranger to event concerts, like Chest Fever. Prepare to be bowled over by a seasoned icon.

THE MAYBIRDS is a Los Angeles-based rock band, formed in 2022 by George Adrian, Alex Locascio and Audrey Wiechman. The three crossed paths over the years on various projects, but when they got together for a jam one night they knew they’d found a special synchronicity, and The Maybirds was born.

The Maybirds’ sound is a modern take on ‘60s pop meets ‘70s rock and a splash of punk, with driving beats, catchy riffs and lush harmonies.

Chicago native George Adrian has been a staple on the L.A. music scene for many years. After finding success alongside Tyler Bates (Marilyn Manson) in film scoring and composing (Psycho Cop 2, and Blue Flame directed by Cassian Elwes), his passion for performing led him to a longtime residency at the world-famous Cat Club. George recently accompanied Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) on bass for Cantrell’s ”Brighten” U.S. and European Tour 2022-2023. George is currently collaborating on a new album with legendary artist Peter Lewis (Moby Grape).

• Alex Locascio - drums and percussion
Alex Locascio is also a Chicago native. Alex’s love of music began at age seven when he started playing the drums. He is a seasoned musician who has worked with a wide variety of artists including Tears for Fears, Phoenix and Tori Amos with LA-based band “Pet”.

• Audrey Wiechman - bass and vocals
Los Angeles native Audrey Wiechman sang on TV commercials
as a child and has been making music ever since. Her recorded vocal credits range from a Disney record (“The Lion Sleeps Tonight” on Rhythm of the Pride Lands) to a Rob Zombie record (Educated Horses). Audrey has played bass in many bands over recent decades, including Loaded with Muddy Dutton (Chris Robinson Brotherhood). She played bass on Tommy Lee’s Methods of Mayhem record, and has an on-screen bass performance in the movie Boogie Nights.

Tom “Satch” Kerans, the 2009 runner-up in the 92.5 The River Rising Star contest is a singer, songwriter and guitarist drawing on such influences as Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Barry and The Remains. The founder and front man of the Boston based band the Catalinas, he has opened shows for many national acts including Little Steven Van Zandt, NRBQ, Charlie Sexton and South Side Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. In fact, Kerans opened a show for Roy Orbison four days before the legendary singer’s untimely death.
Kerans has steadily garnered national and local press; David Mead, in the September October (2009) issue of American Songwriter, declared “Satch Kerans is doing his damndest to preserve what seems to have always worked: stories about people in conflict set to familiar melodies and arrangements... Kerans doesn’t stray too far from any previously beaten paths, but a certain authenticity in his delivery makes you like him for it all the more. You really wouldn’t want him to be any other way”. In a recent feature story that ran in the Boston Globe music critic Jonathan Perry wrote, “years after settling into an entirely different identity and new set of priorities - reemerges with some of the best songs he's ever written... nodded in sound and temperament to his longtime heroes Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, as well as ex-Dream Syndicate frontman Steve Wynn and Mark Knopfler. At the collection's core was a clutch of sturdy melodies and classic pop structures”. Kerans, who has garnered extensive airplay on Boston radio stations including WXRV (The River) WAAF and WUMB. is currently working on his fifth solo CD. Catch him at a venue near you! SN 3 | EP 4 Satch Kerans on The Arwen Lewis Show

Second Language is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. The band’s name derived from their view of music as a universal second language. They performed and recorded together from 1981 to 1996 and gained recognition with their debut record in 1984, the Souvenirs EP, which garnered college radio play and even commercial airplay, unusual for an unsigned band.
The band gigged regularly at venues in Los Angeles and opened for notable bands like Love And Rockets. Blancmange, Howard Devoto, Berlin and Oingo Boingo. In 1996 the band independently released their first album WrongSpeak. 
The core of the band since 1984, Jessie Jacobson (lead vocalist, songwriter, guitarist), Jarrett Lesko (bass) & Brian Bielski (drums), along with a host of other talented multi-instrumentalists and vocalists sharing multiple influences, created post-punk, new wave and indie rock music utilizing an improvisational composing style and powerful stage performances. The band went on hiatus in 1996.
In 2001, Jessie, a trans woman, underwent a personal transition in order to manifest her authentic self. She briefly left music behind, went back to school and earned an MA in Psychology and worked as a therapist, but soon found herself drawn back to singing, songwriting, improvising and recording from a whole new more feminine/feminist perspective, literally with a new voice, and back to working with her former bandmates, in particular Brian and Jarrett.
Second Language reformed in 2014 on a part-time basis to improvise together culminating in producing new studio recordings 2022-2024, that are ongoing. 
During 2023-2024, Second Language will release seven albums of back catalog and unreleased material as well as a new album, recorded with a legendary group of producers: Tony Berg, Ron Fair, Michael James, Earle Mankey, Frank Wolf, and Ken Jordan, along with the band itself. The result is the first in a series of Second Language archival and contemporary stereo & Atmos single releases on Alternator Records, mixed by Michael James in 2023-2024. Alternator Records is a modern label founded by legendary producer/mixer Michael James. The label specializes in immersive audio, with every frontline release being conceived from the ground up—and mixed in—Dolby Atmos.

Emily Zuzik is an L.A. based singer-songwriter who has musical roots in a unique eclectic blend of alt-country, rock and electronic music. She brings to her songs a woman’s vulnerability and strength in the tradition of Patsy Cline and Lucinda Williams. "Emily Zuzik's voice ranges from a sweet and alluring croon to a low growl that would charm even the most world-weary."  (Time Out New York). She released her lauded 2020 Americana album, Torch & Trouble, produced by Ted Russell Kamp, which gained praises among the Americana. Her lead single off the album, Trouble, won 2020 Song of the Year from Welsh Online Radio Wigwam.

SN 3 | EP 12 - Carly Jo Jackson on The Arwen Lewis Show

Speedfossil is the creation of singer/songwriter Garret Vandermolen, who returns to the scene with his 4th collection of songs, a new EP entitled Room With A VU, Vol.1, his debut release on Boston’s Sonic Escort label.  Over five separate days in 2023, Garret worked with engineer and co-producer David Minehan (The Neighborhoods, The Replacements) at his Boston-based Woolly Mammoth studio, recording five songs. It was a reunion for Garret and David after a 25-year hiatus! Playing on the recordings are Michael Scotti (bass, vocals), Dan Jordan (guitar/vocals,) and Chris Walsh (drums). These musicians have all played with Garret at various Speedfossil gigs since 2016. As with all of Speedfossil’s previous releases, Garret handled vocals, guitars, keyboards, and some percussion. 

The EP is hot on the heels of Speedfossil’s 2022 full-length, NO ANESTHESIA, which was lauded by fans and critics alike for clever songwriting and great pop hooks; the live band has been described as a combination of “Randy Newman meets Husker Du,” with Garret’s songs drawing comparisons to those of Fountains of Wayne, The Replacements, and The Beatles. Musoscribe called the songs on NO ANESTHESIA “fist-pumping, convertible-top-down music that isn’t dumbed down for the masses. There’s an indie character to the songs, but musicianship and production are major league.”   

Room With A VU, Vol. 1, is the first in a series of EPs that will feature songs all recorded in the same studio with the same engineer/producer.  The concept was to present the songs to the band, work quickly to put them together and get demos to the producer/engineer-then record them all in a short period in one specific studio.  Vol. 2 is slated for sometime in the Fall of 2024 (and the complete sessions, Vol 1.and Vol. 2 to be released on a vinyl LP in late 2024).   Over 5 separate days in 2023, Garret worked with David Minehan at his Woolly Mammoth studio to record and mix the 5 songs.  Originally slated to be released in September 2023 on Boston’s Red on Red Records, plans tragically changed in June 2023 when label founder, Justine Covault, died suddenly at the age of 59.  Garret was devastated to lose a friend, colleague, mentor and a musical home.  After entertaining a couple of offers from other labels, Garret decided to release Room With A VU, Vol. 1 on the new Sonic Escort imprint, a full length label collective out of Boston.  Whether its upbeat rockers like, “Sweetheart”, featuring a guest vocal appearance from Linda Bean Pardee of The Chelsea Curve, the throwback Roy Orbison-esque “Frozen Drops of Fire”, or the horn laden “irl”, the EP really showcases Garret’s songwriting chops, as well as the production prowess and sonic power of Minehan and his Woolly Mammoth studio.   As one astute listener stated, “this EP is definitely next level!”.  Speedfossil will once again be supporting Room With A VU, Vol. 1, with shows throughout the Northeast.

When it came to naming her collective project, it could only be something that worked like a charm. So musician Lydia Macintosh conjured Lux Lawless, pairing the Latin for light (“I like to believe it is a protective light around the project,” she explains) with a word to honour her grandmother. “She was a wonderful woman and loved the spaghetti westerns we’d watch together when I was a kid.”

The Los Angeles-based group formed during the pandemic out of Secret Hand Studios as a means to grow artistic community at a strange time. Sonically, their bouquet of tones is darker, moody and cinematic, paired with poetic lyricism that’s as clear and intentional as a spell. With lightning speed, McIntosh created multiple singles, EPs and an album with producer Matt McJunkins, guitarist Nick Perez, drummer Jeff Friedl, and mastering engineer Mike Pozzi. An integral part of Lux Lawless’s power is held in the freedom of the live experience, which includes guitarist Randy Andrade, bassist Victor Marquez, and drummer Trey Cornish.

As a deeply intuitive person, McIntosh sees her art as a way of transmuting pain into something beautiful outside of herself as centuries of artists have done before, knowingly or unknowingly. This methodology extends to her community, for whom she wishes the same opportunity to express both dark and light experiences and connect with each other while doing so. To her, that is true magic.

Kathleen Sieck's latest album, “Goodnight America" (2020), is a statement piece from this popular singer-songwriter. Paired with a classic sound, her melodies are strong and evocative, with lyrics deeply rooted in a sense of time and location. Produced by Raymond Richards B-Side Studios and co-produced by Bobby Hartry at CatBeach Studio, this 8-song collection was released via CatBeach Music, in the spring of 2020. 
A California native, Kathleen's music envelopes the listener in a sun-soaked West Coast nostalgia that is both laid back and soulful. Kathleen’s confident writing paired with velvety smooth vocals and lyrical melodies are reminiscent of iconic artists such as Carole King, Linda Rondstadt, Susan Tedeschi, and Alison Krauss. This album is a genre-defying group of solid songs that hits all the right feels and is both reflective and relatable. 
 	
After Kathleen decided to turn to songwriting and music, she made a name for herself in the SoCal area as a worship leader. Over the past few years, Kathleen has released two gospel albums and an Americana album (Where the Sleepers Lie, 2014). 

In 2015, Kathleen formed a locally beloved Americana band, The Paradise Road, which performs throughout Southern California. In addition to being the band leader and songwriter, she also writes for film and TV, with songs sync licensed in “The Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital”. 

	Currently, Kathleen is in the studio, recording a new album with The Paradise Road, which will be a collection of California-centric original music, titled Antares This album will be released in summer 2024. Additionally, Kathleen is a mother of three teenage daughters, an independent contract floral designer, a worship pastor at a church in Summerland, California, as well as a touring musician with Shaun Cassidy (2019-present).

Dezelle is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, California who writes music in a variety of genres, including pop, electronic, R&B, americana, and indie folk. She writes and composes for her own projects as well as for other musicians, film, and TV. She has played The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, The Bitter End in New York, the Troubadour and Ain't Nothin' But Blues Bar in London, House of Blues, SXSW in Austin, Folk Music Festival in Arizona,  the Uncancelled Music Festival and other venues and festivals. 

At the center of Dezelle's music is honest story-telling, and she has received critical acclaim for her lyrics, which were also recognized through her inclusion in the "Lyrics as Poetry" project, a journal featuring lyrics of singer-songwriters that can be found in bookstores and museums across the world. Dezelle's lyrics are featured in the book alongside singer-songwriters such as Gregory Alan Isakov, Alexi Murdoch, and Rachel Yamagata. Dezelle's music has been placed in numerous films, TV shows, and trailers. She has written for Netflix hit TV shows,
the Hallmark Channel, Bravo, Mar Vista Entertainment, Parkside Pictures, Dailey advertising agency (Nestle and Fender), Lifetime, UpTV, as well other brands and studios.

Hi, my name is Jackson Gillies. I’m 24 years old and I live in Santa Barbara, CA but was born and raised on Long Island, NY until I was 13. I was consistently subjected to fantastic music from a very early age. My parents attended over 100 Grateful Dead shows, and cranked their music throughout the house as I was growing up- Neil Young, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers etc..

I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old. I was exclusively a musical theatre kid until I discovered the guitar. My first love was The Avett Brothers and their music awoke something within me that said “I need to be able to do that.” I began learning every single one their songs on acoustic guitar, and soon mimicking their writing style and stage presence. A few years later around the age of 17 I discovered John Mayer and his incredible craft. An effortless blend of classic blues music with pop and folk lyrics and structure. Funny enough, I only discovered him because he started playing with the Grateful Dead! 

I’ve been releasing my own original music since I was 19 and I’ve struggled with it greatly. I am a perfectionist and would always fall out of favor with my works as soon as they were released and doubt myself if people wanted to hear them. I stopped releasing music for a while- until this year. I wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered my first ever album. The songs are all recorded without a click track, captured on an AKG 414 with no tuning or comping. The record is entitled “High & Low” and will be released on April 26.

SN 3 | EP 18 Jackson Gillies on The Arwen Lewis Show

Had it not been for the melodic and accomplished guitar work of Peter Albin flowing out of an upper story window at 1090 Page Street in the early summer of 1965, there might never have been a Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was on that day that Sam Andrew happened down Page Street in San Francisco and was so impressed by what he heard, that he went in and introduced himself.
Peter was born on June 6, 1944 in San Francisco. He began playing guitar at an early age and became involved in the folk scene of the early 60s. While attending The College of San Mateo, Peter and his brother Rodney played in a bluegrass band called the Liberty Hill Aristocrats.
By the time Peter met Sam in 1965, he had aspirations of forming a band that would write and perform children’s songs. One of the first songs he wrote while working with children at The Marin Jewish Community Day Camp, north of San Francisco, was “Caterpillar”. This song went on the appear on the first Big Brother and the Holding Company Album.


But the guitarist who inspired the first meeting with Sam Andrew ended up making the transition to bass and has spent the majority of his career with that instrument. Although his fine guitar work can be heard on cuts such as “Coo-Coo”, “Oh, Sweet Mary”, and “Turtle Blues” and also on Big Brother LPs “Be A Brother” and “How Hard It Is”.
Witty and personable, Peter provided much of the on-stage commentary and also served as the liaison for the group with managers and promoters. Also, in the early days of Big Brother, before Janis, Peter did most of the lead vocals for the band. Among the many songs he sang were “Blow My Mind” and “Down On Me”. Even after Janis, the first album finds Peter’s lead on “Blindman”, “Light Is Faster Than Sound”, and “Caterpillar”.
Peter’s musical pursuits have also extended beyond Big Brother and the Holding Company. He has played with Country Joe and the Fish and can be heard on their 1969 Vanguard album “Here We Are Again”. He later toured in an all-star band with Joe McDonald that cut an album outside Paris (Paris Sessions, Vanguard – 1973) in September of 1972.
In 1982, Peter was one of the founding members of the Bay Area super group, The Dinosaurs. Along with Peter, the group consisted of, John Cipollina, Barry Melton, Merl Saunders, Robert Hunter, and Spencer Dryden.
Peter has loaned many items to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland. The most notable piece is his legendary psychedelic Fender Jazz Bass from 1968 which is now a popular museum attraction.

Today, Peter is still playing occasionally with Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Barry Melton Band, and the Irish Newsboys.

Jeff Berkley shares stories about his life as a songwriter, recording artist and producer based out of Satellite Recording Studio in San Diego, CA - and their Neve Mixing Console... we talk about his creative process, being on tour with Jackson Browne, Street Tacos, and so much more...

Jeff Berkley is a native San Diegan who has made music his life.  He has been called a San Diego legend, and it’s easy to understand why.  Berkley’s musical contributions include his work in current bands Berkley Hart and Jeff Berkley & The Banned, as well as his solo performances.  His previous bands include The Cry, The Redwoods, and Citizen Band.  He is also known for his work with the many musicians he has produced in studios around the world, including his own. 
 
The legend continues as he is also an amazing guitarist and percussionist with multiple acts.  As an accomplished songwriter (he won the Kerrville New Folk Songwriter award in 1999), in any way you engage with Jeff Berkley, he puts you at ease with his good humor, and then engages you with his experience, his ear, and his passion.
 
He is known as one of the finest singer-songwriters San Diego has ever produced. He has a warm, melodic voice and a way with song hooks that are second to none.

The former leader and frontman for seminal Caribbean rock n roll bands ODDFELLOWS LOCAL and JOINTPOP, Hector is now on a solo career and will simply be known as, GARY HECTOR.

Trinidad and Tobago is home to the music of Calypso and Soca, and the National Instrument the Steelpan, but Hectors’ song writing is based on the classic Rock n Roll, Outlaw Country, Americana songbook, without neglecting the landscape of his homeland.

Recognized at home as a pioneer and legend, he is no newcomer to the scene, as he led, and recorded one landmark album with ODDFELLOWS LOCAL (1991-1995) which created the underground scene in Trinidad. 

His debut solo album was NATIONAL TRASH (3rd Aug 2021). With the first single called “TODAY I RIDE ALONE “(1st July 2021) Both are hauntingly beautiful slices of Americana, with shades of classic country and classic rock n roll. Which Gary jokingly refers to as “ Trinicana”

The first single and the album both made it onto early round “For Your Consideration “Grammy voting lists for 2021.

His follow up solo album MEMPHIS MEDICNE will be released in October 2024.

SN 4 | EP 1 Gary Hector on The Arwen Lewis Show

Smack Champion is an up and coming independent rock group currently based in Los Angeles. Founded by long-time collaborators Ray Williams and Weston Wilson, the band originally formed in 2019 as a backing band for Williams' solo project at the time. During 2020, they decided to combine efforts and co-write some new material, solidifying Smack Champion as a unit. They have spent 2024 rolling out their debut album track by track, offering a distinctive blend of rock, folk, and country influences. Their sound is both fresh and nostalgic, a throwback to the alternative and indie rock that they grew up with as well as a more classic 60's/70's vibe.
