As It Starts is a six piece Indie-Rock band based out of Bothell, Washington, in the greater Seattle area.

The band got its start when Alex Rimbey (Rimbey) and Connor Elliott's previous band disbanded after winning a production contract at the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB). When KTUB offered to extend the production contract to Connor and Rimbey if they could put together another band, As It Starts was born. First on the agenda was to find a new singer. Through a mutual friend, they found Alex Menne (Menne) on YouTube and knew she was exactly who they were looking for. During the recording of their first EP, “What A Concept,” piano tracks were added, so they asked their friend, Ali Barker, to join the band on keyboards. Later, they added Kyle Trostad-Menne on drums and Nick Watson on Trombone.

In February and March of 2013, As It Starts competed in the prestigious EMP Sound Off! Competition for under-21 bands from the Pacific Northwest. Out of an applicant list of 130 bands, As It Starts was chosen as one of the 12 semi-finalists. They won their semi-final round on February 23, and went on to the finals on March 2, competing against the two other semi-final winners and the wild-card act. As It Starts was very proud to win Crowd Favorite both at their semi-finals round and at the finals. The Sound Off! finals was their biggest show to date, with a crowd of 1,500 people at EMP's Sky Church.

Currently, As It Starts is working on writing and recording more music. They are also playing shows in and around Seattle.
