DJ Swagger returns to Nerang Recordings with ‘Bass Hysteria’ this January.
Following releases on E-Beamz, Natural Sciences, and Who’s Susan, the German-based DJ Swagger
returns to Nerang after appearing on the label’s ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ compilation earlier this year,
bringing yet another bout of high quality, high energy output to the table.
Merging influences from Dance Mania through to UK Garage, ‘Bass Hysteria’ sees the DJ Swagger at
the top of his game. ‘Atomic Fear’ galvanizes the pure energy of early DJ Funk, with air raid sirens and
glitched out hi-hats punctuated throughout, while ‘Drybones’ nods towards early dubstep and UK
flavours, with gurgling basslines and skippy drums bubbling throughout as occasional glimmers of
gorgeous synth work allow the listener to come up for air.
‘Trail of Destruction’ encapsulates golden age electro, with effected vocals, crisp percussion, and gritty
basslines coming together for a late night groover. ‘Noseblunt’ is a fast-paced whirlwind, aimed for
fog-filled dance floors, perfectly wrapping up the eleventh release on a label pushing diverse sounds
from artists around the world.

Carving out his own unique voice within house music for the past 25 years, Titonton Duvante's sound is refined, appealing as equally to the old school house music fans as it does the new. A master of his art, his passion and knowledge help to set him apart from others with a blend of electronic music that celebrates the past, present and future of house music, keeping himself firmly at the forefront of the scene both as a DJ and producer and with his own Residual Recording label.

Deep grooves and fresh, funky rhythms are the order of the day in mix 227 for our series - in what feels like an effortless example of Duvante's acclaimed skills in the booth.

“When writing this EP, I was thinking about water and I was thinking about sweat. I was thinking about festival season and kick-ons galore. I was thinking about the crew out west and how the sun looks going down over the water there in summer. I felt really free then - a little buzzed, a little sideways - but free. I felt good then, and have a gracious amount of times since. Frivolous and free - like water, water, water. ”
 
Canadian born and Naarm (Melbourne) based Jennifer Loveless returns one year on from her debut release Hard/Soft (Pure Space Records) with Water, a 12” EP presented by Butter Sessions. Bestowing us with five tracks of dystopian dance-floor thump, Water is a bustling showcase of Jenn’s breadth as an artist. Reflecting on the contrast of Water with her first EP, Loveless comments “I wanted a hard contrast to the Hard/Soft release. I always had a plan to release an energetic frivolous fun type EP after Hard/Soft. I had a feeling people might see me as an ambient producer (although I wouldn’t really categorise Hard/Soft as that), and I guess this EP, Water, is my response”. 
 
At its core, Water is a hyper-charged cetacean maelstrom of electronic music, sampling weddell seals, humpback whales, pacific walruses and water itself. Water kicks off with the rumbling patter of Out/Under before moving into the unabating Syzygy (Scissor Me). Jenn stamps a joyful yet skittish imprint onto ECC, while fly on the wall Backroll Buddy sits on a sound bed of audio Jenn recorded at parties, capturing friends chattering and an edit of a Whitney Houston earworm she heard a DJ playing, paying ode to a night out. B L U YOU is a charming endnote; a fusion of fluorescent pop and a catchy bassline. The verdict here is that Water allows Jennifer Loveless to prove herself truly as a jack of all trades. Water takes shape as an engrossing palette of bold dance music.
