Toby Ross launches the debut EP “Lifeforms / Visionary” on his newly established label imprint. This two-track release combines the raw characteristics of classic jungle with modern production techniques. 

“Lifeforms” is a dark and steppy roller, built on a foundation of rugged breakbeats and deep basslines, with heavy nods to the old-skool drum & bass sound. 

On the B side, “Visionary” enters with a sharper, cleaner edge. Featuring shimmering arpeggios, crisp drums and a driving low end, it showcases Toby’s intent to explore jungle from a futuristic angle.

With this release, Toby Ross sets the tone for his new self-release imprint.

Their latest offering is a futuristic dancehall smasher of a beat, produced by one of their very own crew members Leo Samson, with Shumba Youth’s soft vocal cries complimenting the hard dancehall backing track beautifully. The track with its low sub frequencies and deadly lyrics is sure to set dance floors alight this summer.

This is the first single of their deadly 6 Track EP also coming soon to Reggae Roast Records entitled ‘Hot Like Lava’ and is due out later this year.

Leo Samson has been putting in the work as one of the key Reggae Roast residents for the past 5 years. His first big release came in the form of a monster remix for Benny Page’s ‘Champion Sound’ which went on to become an underground anthem. All the while he has been releasing remixes for the likes of Nice Up! Records one of the UKs best dancehall labels and Boom Sound Recordings. This is his first official release on the Reggae Roast label. The first of many!

Shumba Youth is fast becoming a household name in the UK Reggae scene and one of the key artists in the new wave of talent coming out of the capitol. Reggae Roast have been instrumental in bringing exciting new talent through their ranks and Shumba along with artists such as Natty Campbell and now stepping up to fulfil their potential and are certain be the next generation of talent in the UK scene for years to come.

Newcomer Sour Phree takes over remix duties for this and he creates a powerful dancehall smasher giving a new lease of life the the original. With a more contemporary sound and killer production this is sure to be a hit in clubs.

Reggae Roast have plenty more in the locker so keep your eyes peeled for upcoming releases from the likes of Tippa Irie, Brother Culture and Charlie P.

SPIRITUALLY GROWN

Spiritually Grown (2020) is the first solo LP by Jamaican Reggae singer Mowty Mahlyka. This work has been composed, produced and edited by the record label Cool Up Records. The vinyl consists of 5 songs on the side A and their respective riddims and dub versions on the side B, the digital release doesn't include the dub versions. Spiritually Grown is a work that was recorded between the years 2016 and 2019, but it is in 2020 when it sees the light in physical and digital format.
In this first LP of Mowty Mahlyka we will be able to enjoy 5 tracks of Digital Reggae and Rub a dub with a lot of energy in the voice and lyrics of the artist. With songs of different themes in which we can enjoy his incredible baritone voice. Undoubtedly, we are facing a very different work to the singles and projects in which Mowty has participated so far.
The visual art has been made by another member of the music label, Mr John Vanilla. Adding his unique style to this project, inspired by comics and animation series.
